Due to the new $4.99 all-you-can-eat pancake promo that IHOP has going on right now the inevitable question, "how many pancakes can you eat?", came up at work yesterday. We have a guy here that is known for his love of eating (his nickname is Snacks if that paints a clearer picture). We were trying to determine what the line would be over/under for this type of challenge. Right now we have it at 11. He will also have to finish the rest of the meal as it comes with eggs, hashbrowns and a choice of meat. Is this a fair number?

theyre prettttttttttttttttttttty fluffy mani feel like 11 is a good beti'd give 8:1 if he made it to twenty
1/8/2010 11:00:00 AM
i dunno about the number - but there should be an agreement on whether or not syrup will be mandated - somehow i feel like that might make a difference.

There's a Man Vs Food pancake episode. I feel like that might provide a realistic base.

I think he'll have to use at least a certain amount of syrup to get them down or they will start to get pretty tough to get down. One of the X-Factors is how quickly they will bring out additional plates of pancakes b/c if he has to wait 5-10 minutes in between plates that could make it really tough.

^this is true.
1/8/2010 11:04:36 AM
Is there a time limit?
1/8/2010 11:05:43 AM
If the line is 11, I would take under.
1/8/2010 11:06:19 AM
seriously i think i went in college and did about 13. crapped out on halfway on 14. asked what the record was and he said some little chick got like 17.
1/8/2010 11:06:42 AM
^good question. We've discussed that but there's no way to determine how quickly they will bring the pancakes. I guess we could start and stop the clock when the food is in front of him.Thoughts on a time limit?

14 is my record
1/8/2010 11:08:02 AM

it shouldnt matter as long as you make sure your waiter always keeps an extra stack on the table apart from the one he's currently working onand 45 minutes sounds like an appropriate time limit
1/8/2010 3:00:45 PM
I like the 45 minute idea and i'm sure if we tell the waitress what we're doing and promise her a crisp abe lincoln she'll make it happenWe have decided to play raquetball beforehand, which i still can't decide if that would be an advantage or not.

He ended up taking down 14 pancakes in about 20 minutes. He also finished 2 scrambled eggs w/cheese, hashbrowns, and 2 pieces of bacon. They brought us 8 pancakes to start and brought another stack of 6 when he finished that. The guy at the register said the store record was 30 and was done by some chick on the swim team.

11 seems really fucking low to me.
1/9/2010 2:51:25 PM
Sounds like a pussy. Just the other day I had 4 thickburgers at hardees (lay off they were free). Back when Moe's Southwest Grill used to do the "Cinco de Moe's" promotion where burritos were buy one get one free on the 5th of the month I had a wager with a friend over how many homewreckers I could eat. I ate 5. I could easily put away 20 pancakes, probably 30.]

You should go to the one on h-boro and go for the record then. When I ate there a few months back, our server said the record was 24. Apparently it is up to 30 now...?Go for it, Limpy.

I'm in Southport, we have no IHOP. I'm not driving an hour to the Wilmington IHOP for pancakes.

just recently I and a friend were discussing whether it would be possible to eat 10 Taco Bell tacosthe conclusion was "Probably, but it would be hard"
1/9/2010 5:11:40 PM
I have already completed that challenge. It is not hard to ingest them. It is hard to digest them. (Explosive diarrhea for about 2 days.)]
1/9/2010 5:52:11 PM
how the sam hell do you guys eat so much? i can barely finish a stack of 2 pancakes, especially if there's eggs, bacon, and grits/potatoes to go with them.
