Headphones are vastly superior if you're just going to be listening to music at home or on your computer or something.

the earbuds for the ipod headphones are excellent sound quality

that is partially why I am torn

plus all the headphones I own are rather uncomfortable in comparison

Privacy of your own home: Headphones
Anywhere in public: Earbuds

Unless you have particularly shitty headphones and/or particularly good earbuds.

There are some earphones which exceed $1000, are molded to your ear canal, and are supposed to be as good a listening experience as anything can be. See: /message_topic.aspx?topic=585518

grado is the only acceptable choice for headphones that aren't astronomically expensive

And their bargain cartridge lineup is good too.

I only use earphones, but a buddy of mine has some nice Bose headphones that kick ass.

Ear buds irritate my ears. I think the little area that holds them is really small on me or something. Granted, I haven't tried the ones with different sized ear pieces. I'm mostly referring to the ones that came with my iPods.

Earbuds are uncomfortable and can fall out...headphones are only good if you're stationary

are the best of both worlds, imo

the earbuds, the in the ear canal kind, are the best. not the ones that just sit kinda on top of your earlobe, like the cheapo apple ones that come w/ the ipod. the nicer apple ones are awesome

^^Best how? Comfort, or performance?

If its performance, then nothing can beat the sound quality of a good high end set of headphones.

I've got a pretty sweet set of Bose earphones that come with a few different sized ear canal moldings. They're fantastic.

Earbuds used to SUCK because it was a hard plastic piece with a thin foam cover. Now-a-days the part that goes into the ear is flexible rubber or foam plastic material, and even basic sets come with extra inserts of varying sizes. Not only do they feel comfortable - they also create a seal around your ear canal, insulating against ambient sound. They even use less battery power than headphones.

those isolation earbuds are pretty nice. I like the types that hang over your ears like what Slave posted

I would definitely have to say headphones, if not just for sound quality, then comfort. I have a pair of beyerdynamic headphones that I really like but are not really feasable for office or just walking around so that's when the earbuds come out
