i agree with rat soup, and i like dylan, but i also find that i prefer many of the covers over the originals

dylan is a great songwriter. i'm not saying songwriting isn't important. i'm just more of a fan of people channeling raw emotion through notes played on the guitar than through words alone. case in point

I'm not saying that guitar playing or singing isn't important. However, Christina Aguilera is a fantastic singer who's given shit material to work with, and her records suck as a result. Her voice is wasted without good material.

nah. not more important necessarily. it just does more for me. another example: mike mccready's guitar solo from "alive" by pearl jam trumps all emotion laid out in eddie vedder's lyrics.
