I haven't taken PreCalc in a goddamn decade. I completely forgot what FOIL is, how to find the slope blah blah. Oh em jesus. This is going to be hard.< /blog >

The professor listed like 10 equations we "should know how to graph prior to this class,"like f(x) = x^2, x^3, e^x, sqrt(x), etc.I need to find a pre calc book or something

Quit now while you're ahead. The last thing you need to do is come to the realization now that you're dumber than you were before.
1/12/2010 10:49:29 PM
to be fair, FIOL works just the same
1/12/2010 10:49:33 PM
yeah, but it doesn't spell anything and is therefore inferior
1/12/2010 10:50:35 PM
exactly
1/12/2010 10:51:33 PM
LIES! FIOL IS VIOLIN IN SWEDISH. I didn't even look it up. I just speak swedish fluently. FIOL is more memorable now that it has a backstory like violin.

Don't feel bad, I went three years of no math between pre-Calc and MA141 and made a 97 in the class. I just took it during a summer session, studied my ass off, did the work and had a kick ass instructor who was actually just a grad student.
1/13/2010 12:58:47 AM
I too made A's in calc 1 2 3

who waits until college to take calc? also if you don't know basic pre-algebra information you might want to turn back now.
1/13/2010 9:55:43 AM
I'm not saying I didn't know it.I just forgot all of it.Like, after I see it, I'm all "OHHHHHHHHH ISWYDT"The problem is that I don't know what I still don't remember. All those tricks and tips and handy formulas.
1/13/2010 9:58:52 AM
Yeah, I took calc 141 even though I got a 4 on the AP Calc test and placed out of it because I knew I wasn't going to remember that shit after the summer. If I had to do it now I'd be uber screwed.[Edited on January 13, 2010 at 10:03 AM. Reason : asdfas]
1/13/2010 10:03:26 AM
This is all ironic since I took Pre-Algebra in 6th grade.

If you are serious about Physics, you really need to have a passion for all types of math. I loved all of my math classes at state, even the ones with Indian instructors who barely spoke English.[Edited on January 13, 2010 at 10:23 AM. Reason : s]

I don't see where I indicated I didn't. Just saying that it was a splash of cold water. I just breezed through a graduate level film course last semester with an almost 100% average, and now in this freshman course I'm struggling due to not remembering anything from 10-15 years ago.
1/13/2010 10:28:45 AM
Yeah, but c'mon film class, graduate lever or not, isn't a real class. That's like breezing through a sociology class or racquetball.Much love to all you film majors out there! That is i there are any of you who can afford a computer and are reading this.
1/13/2010 10:32:14 AM
I can see why you'd say that, but writing a 15 page paper on the Brechtian effects of Soviet-style montage in postmodern horror is a bit more difficult than you'd imagine.

Hey, I majored in English Lit, whipping out 15 page papers about nonsense was my thing. Subjective material is in some ways much easier to deal with than objective material, but in other ways it can be much more difficult.
