it's my friend's birthday. but he died 2 and a half years ago
1/27/2010 10:20:07 AM
so, it's still his birthday.
1/27/2010 10:20:39 AM
yea, the whole "reconnect with...." thing creeps me out when it's friends that have passed away
1/27/2010 10:21:18 AM
Sir James Milne Wilson is the only person of note to be born and die on Feb 29th
1/27/2010 10:22:14 AM
^^ why would you still have them on facebook if they have passed?
1/27/2010 10:23:07 AM
i guess i've just never gotten around to defriending them - and it's not like their accounts have been deactivated...
1/27/2010 10:24:37 AM
yeah, i'd rather defriend someone because i don't like them or because i don't know who they are rather than because they died
1/27/2010 10:25:33 AM
seems to me that'd feel like a shitty thing to dodefriend someone only because they died.esp. if they were close.]
1/27/2010 10:25:38 AM
What if you were about to defriend them for other reasons, then they diedHow long would you have to wait to defriend them then to not look like a prick
1/27/2010 10:28:06 AM
3 hours 46 minutes
1/27/2010 10:30:13 AM
defriending dead people seems weirdwhen i miss them i go to their FB page and look at their pics and see what people have written to them
1/27/2010 10:32:34 AM
isn't there some kind of option where facebook turns a dead person's page into a memorial or something?
1/27/2010 10:37:03 AM
No
1/27/2010 10:37:29 AM
1/27/2010 10:40:35 AM
you should Poke him]
1/27/2010 12:13:34 PM
^^ that sounds like a way better idea the defriending themi only made my statement because people were complaining that facebook reminded them when it was a birthday or reconnect with, or said it was weird.its not weird, facebook doesnt know the person has passed
1/27/2010 12:22:40 PM
^^
1/27/2010 12:27:39 PM
I have a few friends on facebook that have died. Their parents run their page now. But yeah their walls are mostly just memorials. People just posting that they were thinking about them and such. Post pictures from back in the day.

From one angle I can see it's "sad" and "polite" to keep your dead friends profile active. From the other, WHY HASN'T SOMEONE DELETED THE PROFILE YET? 2 Years of not logging in and it's still there? To me this means Facebook is padding it's user quantity. If they haven't logged on in over 3 months they no longer count.
1/27/2010 1:24:41 PM
b/c friends or family have asked it to be frozen. they know it's not an active account when the request is made to freeze it due to death.
1/27/2010 1:27:04 PM
^why would you freeze something like that? Sounds sick to me. Same goes for keeping their ashes on a mantle. They're dead and gone, celebrate it, don't forget it, and move on.
1/27/2010 1:29:07 PM
That's always awkward, lately my Facebook has been telling me to reconnect with a friend who died as well.
1/27/2010 1:29:13 PM
^^see my post above. different strokes for different folks.

Facebook fad has 2 years MAX.
1/27/2010 2:40:05 PM
i don't think having a facebook page after death is the same thing as keeping ashes on a mantle.i think its more like having a photo album or something.
