about my freezer. i don't know what its deal is.everything is frozen except for the 3 pints of ben and jerry's i bought on monday. they are all kinda mushy. not complete soup but def not frozen. but all my chicken and everything else is frozen solid.and it doesn't feel super cold in there, but it feels cold enough. and if chicken breasts, pizzas, waffles, meatballs and everything else that is in there is still frozen solid, what the hell is up with the icecream? is this some sort of sign.it was on sale, too. i'm really really mad. solve my problem, tww.

eat it now before it's soupproblem solved
1/29/2010 8:48:54 PM
yes that is a good solutionbut there are 3 pints that would have lasted me months why is this happening! i need to fix it so i can buy more.
1/29/2010 8:49:27 PM
3 pints would have lasted you months?whoaaaawhen there's ice cream in my house, it will be eaten swiftly
1/29/2010 8:50:37 PM
maybe move it to the back of your freezer?
1/29/2010 8:51:02 PM
the real solution is to position the ice cream between the frozen chicken so that it will stay colder
1/29/2010 8:51:56 PM
^^it was in the back so now i moved it to the front but no changei'm so madwhy are other things frozen?^^^ yea i'm not a huge sweets person so i just eat a spoonful or 2 at a time.^ GOOD IDEA. i'm going to put it between meatballs and frozen chicken. must. save. icecream.its the strawberry cheesecake (MY FAV), mint choc chunk (2nd fav) and cinnabon (NEW, and delish)[Edited on January 29, 2010 at 8:52 PM. Was it near the lower back of the freezer?Do you have a side-by-side or a top and bottom freezer/fridge?[Edited on January 29, 2010 at 8:53 PM. Reason : ]
1/29/2010 8:52:53 PM
i don't have a lower back of the freezer. i have an old school fridge with the fridge on bottom and freezer on top so not a side by side.i just have a front and a back of my freezer. sigh.
1/29/2010 8:53:36 PM
sounds like you need a new freezer.
1/29/2010 8:53:50 PM
1/29/2010 8:54:09 PM
^^ well i know but it freezes other things?!^ hahaha. i do this with chips and other salty snacks. but icecream i can keep around. which is why i'm sad that it might be dying. [Edited on January 29, 2010 at 8:54 PM. Reason : .]
1/29/2010 8:54:20 PM
just put it outside on your porch or something
1/29/2010 8:55:46 PM

is it a 'frostless' model? When they go through their cleaning cycle they will temporarily warm up to melt all the junk out of the wall then come back on. Placing items into them just as their cycle is starting can cause this problem.Or there could be mechanical failure.Or you could have left the door open.etc...
1/29/2010 9:10:32 PM
i have no idea. i just know that everything else in there is frozen fine except the icecream which i've tried moving around to various places to see if it would help. sigh.
1/29/2010 9:13:23 PM
turn the knob in your freezer to "coldest"
1/29/2010 9:32:22 PM
already did

here is the solution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTLhfRGCZq0

make sure the vents (intake and blower part) on the inside are clear of plastic and objects

I thought this thread was about O'Bama's presidency so far.. Cuz I would agree!
1/29/2010 10:02:43 PM
its 25 deg outside. put in a box+ ducttape on porch until you can call freezer man to repair. /thread??? and /blog
1/29/2010 10:07:01 PM
thats actually a really good idea
1/29/2010 10:08:08 PM
^except that the ice cream will thaw. Check the plot on this page:Ice cream freezes right around 0 F.]
1/29/2010 10:57:39 PM
Yeah, Ice cream really needs to be stored at a minimum of 0 F or lower, preferably around -10 if possible.
1/29/2010 10:58:44 PM
Also, ice cream with higher concentrations of sugar will freeze at even lower temperatures. I'd be willing to bet Ben & Jerry's has higher sugar content than run-of-the-mill store brand ice cream.
1/29/2010 11:03:49 PM
double check your freezer very, very carefully when you close it - all four sides. It was ice cream that was always the first to melt, and that's how we knew something was wonky on ours. Turns out the hinges can't even support the weight of the door + ~5lbs of food. It was tilting, and the edge with the handle was sagging so much that there was an open gap at the top, with the door closed. The bottom right corner of the freezer door was resting on top of the fridge door.[Edited on January 29, 2010 at 11:07 PM. Reason : waedsf][Edited on January 29, 2010 at 11:07 PM. Reason : wasdf]

The amount of butter fat is actually more of a factor than the sugar, but any solute will lower the freezing point of a substance.
1/29/2010 11:07:28 PM
its starting to FREEZE again!!!and it isn't gross since it wasn't completely melted to begin withi did ^^ awhile ago (obviously since it is freezing again). who knows what was wrong but i suspect my freezer was just too full and blocking air. i don't even use my ice maker so i took out the tray thing to make more room and organized everything to make sure nothing was blocking the vents.
