So I work at one of the Lowes Foods with a gas station and the line was backed up all night. If the roads are slick then why does anyone need to drive on them? Also the shelves have pretty much nothing on them now. LOL!

They were just hoping they'd get to see you in your elmo costume and black face.

cause you know, if it's as bad as the worst snow storm eastern NC has seen in the past century you all could be snowed in for as long as 2 days.

people in Wisconsin are actually safer in the snow, when the roads are dry they believe they are invincible.

my dads excuse was that if everything else failed you could get in your car and run the heater to prevent death.

THIS JUST IN....People who rarely see snow can't drive in it!

in case ice causes major power outages and there aren't any gas stations with generatorsit was really hard for my family to find gas during the ~6 days we were w/o power after hurricane franwe needed gas to run our generator, get to work, etc.

This reminds me a year or two ago where schools in PA, NY, and NJ were canceling school because of a "heat wave" since the classrooms only had fans instead of AC. The temperatures were warm for up there, but it was still only into the 90s.The kid they interviewed said they were like laying out on the floor and pouring water on themselves the day before because they only had fans and not AC.Now, being from upstate NY and having most of my family still there, I have been there lots over the summer (my preferred time to visit haha). Most of my family does not have AC because it doesnt get hot enough. It has been into the 90s plenty when I was there and over 100 one time in HS and, yes it was a little uncomfortable sleeping at night, but during the day it was a minor annoyance being inside. Conclusion: People freak out over weather they are not used to.This also applies to times where I hear northerners making fun of southerners delaying school and jobs to wait for roads to clear when we get a few inches of snow.[Edited on January 29, 2010 at 11:54 PM. Ancillary Conclusion: These threads get made every time it snows.

^^Part of the school closings in the south has to do with the fact that we don't invest as much in snow plows.

and there's more rural areas that are more difficult to drive in when snow/ice is on the roads.

So tonight we actually had milk left, but the gas line was once again long. Part of that is the fact that people shop on Friday when they get paid, so they probably fuel up too.
2/13/2010 1:56:15 AM
gargs, why do you say "fuel"do you also say "pop"
2/13/2010 1:57:36 AM

2/13/2010 1:57:52 AM
^^I did say pop until about 1987. When we first moved to Raleigh in 1985 from Iowa everyone knew we weren't from here everytime we said "pop."
