Monday, Feb. 1 Classes Before Noon Canceled; NC State Open But Operating Under Status 3 Adverse Weather AdvisoryClasses at North Carolina State University will be in session beginning at noon on Monday, Feb. 1. The university will operate Monday under an adverse weather advisory.Provost Warwick Arden announced the decision after university officials reviewed the latest National Weather Service forecast and local driving conditions. When the university is open but operating under an adverse weather advisory, essential employees should report for work, while employees in non-critical roles must make their own decisions about reporting to work, based on personal safety. In such circumstances, leave-earning employees may use accrued time, or may make up missed time within 12 months. Students who miss scheduled activities will be allowed to make up any missed coursework.Commuters who have an option are asked to use deck parking first so that surface parking areas can be scraped. The NC State University adverse weather regulation is online at htt-p://www.ncsu.edu/policies/campus_environ/health_safety_welfare/REG0-4.20.7.phpPlease do not reply to this message. From what I understand of what "Status 3 Adverse Weather Advisory," this is one of those situations where if you don't show up they can't count it against you.Although the whole thing is kind of screwy because "Status 3" is when the university is open but classes are canceled, which would be accurate before noon, but they seem to say that we're under adverse weather all day.Whatever. Unless the roads where I am improve dramatically, I'm not going. And even if they do improve, I probably still won't go, because tomorrow is my birthday and I want the day off. If the prof has a problem I'll say I was confused about the weather policy (which I am) and that the roads near me are bad (which they are right now, and which I am willing to lie about in the future).
1/31/2010 5:41:37 PM
dude.... for real... you're still in classes?[Edited on January 31, 2010 at 5:44 PM. Reason : s]

^^^I'm in grad school now. The jobs I want have shifted to almost completely rejecting applicants who just have bachelor's degrees, so I'm getting a masters. If the masters isn't enough, I'll keep getting degrees until they hire me or I starve in a gutter. If that qualifies as flushing my life, whatever. I have a goal. To meet that goal I need more degrees.[Edited on January 31, 2010 at 5:47 PM. Reason : ]

1/31/2010 5:56:00 PM
In the meantime, though, I have a more immediate goal, which is not having to go to my goddamn night class. There is an element of legitimate concern here. I could probably drive to school no problem. Whether I can drive back at nine is another question. Oh, and by "legitimate concern" I meant "rationalizing my decision not to go to class pretty much no matter what."(She just e-mailed us telling us that she would e-mail a final decision by 1:00 tomorrow. God how I hate that woman)[Edited on January 31, 2010 at 5:57 PM. Reason : ]

lucky...this is all we get:UNCW Monitoring Potential for Weekend Rain and Sleet in the AreaAccording to the National Weather Service, the Wilmington area will experience a weather event this weekend beginning Friday evening. Rainfall starting after midnight Friday is expected to last through Saturday afternoon and may result in a total amount between one and one and a half inches. The high temperature on Saturday will be in the low forties; however, there is a 50 percent chance of precipitation after mid-afternoon and the possibility of sleet as the temperature drops. Areas to the west of the coast, such as Duplin and Sampson counties, are expected to see an ice accumulation and snowfall. All Homecoming activities for this weekend are scheduled as planned except the Parade, which has been canceled due to the weather. Please exercise additional caution when traveling to campus this weekend, particularly from areas where there may be ice or snow.If weather conditions change, additional information will be provided through the UNCW homepage, this Web site, the Emergency Information Hotline at 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751 and local media.I wish they'd cancel classes before noon...that would be sweet so I wouldn't have to get up at 6 am. But it's not gonna happen.
