to add insult to injury (i already fell this morning, but i'm blaming my dog for pulling me) i fell TWICE on the way to class. so i was wet for the whole 1.5 hours of class. i pity the person who sits in that seat next because it was soaked.

my butt

is definitely bruised. along with elbows and wrist.

more slippery fun shall ensue tomorrow morning. until then....safe walking, tww.

THIS IS NOT A LAUGHING MATTER

if i hadn't gained 15lbs (mostly in my ass) i could be seriously injured right now.

luckily i have enough padding so i'm only expecting a little soft tissue bruising.

Saw a ~ 40year old man almost fall twice and catch himself

the third time was the charm, however

I've slipped on the ice. Luckily, I'm not clumsy and didn't bust my ass.

I was on the North Campus Reverse going up the hill that leads onto the road--Yaaaaaaaarborough--and the bus got stuck, started sliding back, and almost winded up in the intersection. Luckily the driver fucking GUNNED it and crawled us back up. Granted, it was probably his shitty driving that caused it.

I also did not fall on my ass at all.

But I looked like a pussy picking my footsteps through the ice-pack.

In the interest of keeping personal things off of TWW, I'll just post:

sorry you slipped. but everyone, please be careful. you can REALLY hurt yourself out there. also, NC isn't used to snow/ice... the city isn't capable of preparing roads, sidewalks, walkways for this type of weather.

TRUTH

when walking to school i was walking down the sidewalk (which was still kind of icy) minding my own business and then i see up ahead where the crosswalk is located is just a sheet of ice. like who stops clearing the sidewalk there?!

so i crawled over the mound of piled up snow from the road and jaywalked across because i did NOT want to slip again.

Few tips:

-Avoid walking on paths that are rarely traveled (sidewalks near busy roads where everyone drives instead of walks, dirt paths, spaces between cars, etc...)

-If you know you will be walking over ice, make an attempt to take smaller steps. Widen your stance. Waddle. Keep feet planted and slide a little bit if need be. Make an attempt to keep your center of gravity directly in line with your feet.

-If you have to walk up hill, walk large zig zags, in order to break the incline up. Try to walk in the grass.

-Avoid wooden sole shoes when walking. Take a crappy pair of shoes to walk in, so you won't be afraid to walk through mud, grass, etc...

My butt's finally starting to hurt less from where I busted it on Sunday. Stupid invisible ice patch. I was running though, so I don't know if that gives me more of an excuse or makes me more of an idiot.

I've never once slipped on the ice. Strange.

I have slipped in dress shoes when I go in from a rain storm though because my old work shoes had no tread. But I always caught myself.

My dad fell on the ice before Christmas and bumped his head.

I went over there to see if he was alright and fell right beside him.

That was probably hilarious to anyone driving by.

i find I slip more on campus when it rains than when it snows, but this might be more because I take my time when it is icy, and I often fall in the rain when I'm running to get out of it and I'm wearing my sandals (rainbows provide no traction on those damn bricks)

I went to the Canes/Blackhawks game on Saturday night. They had plowed the parking lot and succeeded in making a large snow pile barrier to climb over. I was the first in my group to do so and jumped off the other side because it was steeper than I'd originally thought. I ran off my jump and was coming to a stop when in classic cartoon fashion both legs slipped, I saw my feet at shoulder height and then smacked my butt on the pavement. No bruising or pain. My Finnish blood runs as one with the ice.
