he called in a 14" (small) pizza, came in to pick it up.

on Monday, from 5-9pm, we offer $10 LARGE (18") one-topping pizzas.

he comes in, says, "yeah, pizza for ______"

I say, "gotcha, _______, that's $12.40"

"what about the 10?"

"what's that?" I inquire.

"should be $10" he says, pointing to the poster in our front window.

I say, "ooohh, yeah that's just for larges. . .it says it on there," as I motion towards the poster, cordially.

"what? aahh, hell," he says. "so you're gonna charge me extra for a smaller pizza??"

"no, sir. . that's the regular price for a small one-topping pizza, every day. If you want, I can make you a large with the same toppings--it'll be out in 5-6 minutes"

"no, that's fucking stupid," says he.

I say, "well, who ordered the small?"

He begins to noticeably, well, jiggle with anger, having absolutely no grasp for jest--which is what I was intending to convey.

He says,"oh, now YOU'RE calling ME stupid. . ."

I say, "sir, it was all in jest. .I have no problem making you a brand new pizza. . ."

He interrupts, "no, fuck you. You've got real balls, pal. .you can take this place and shove it up your ass"

"Sir, I definitely didn't mean. . ."

"Fuck you."

Then, off he went.

I had 4 witnesses there, 2 of whom said he goes into their place of work and bitches about their prices about twice a month.

I am the manager. I'm also the one who sets pricing and runs specific promotions aimed at specific purposes. I offered to make him a large for the offer indicated. That said, I'm certainly not interested in procuring future business from a guy who calls a GREAT deal "fucking stupid". The deal isn't "any one topping pizza for $10". It isn't. No other place wouldve offered it, and neither would I. He accused me of charging extra, then indicated the promotion we were running was "fucking stupid." As far as I'm concerned, this materialized exactly as it shouldve, and, honestly, I couldve said the same thing in the same tones to quite literally anyone else who comes in there and it wouldve been a non-issue.

And he should have been thankful that the manager would have allowed him to do that esp since the customer is the one who effed up.

To address the prior questions: he wouldve gotten both pizzas. No extra charge, just an extra 6 or so minutes. What's more, I wouldve offered him a drink while he waited. This guy was HELL BENT on being a horse's ass, and there was no turning back.
