Making me spend cashmonies to send a certified letter to tell them to stop fucking calling me.

Motherfuckers, even if I were this Karen Moore that you're looking for, I wouldn't own up to it, what with the 8am call every. single. day.

Yeah they are fuckin nasty. I, too, got calls from from a collection agency for the wrong person. After checking on the company I found articles on msnbc about how they do this, some people will pay even if it's not them, they've wrongfully ruined peoples credit, the AG's from multiple states sue the bejesus out of them, they are still profitable after all the lawsuits, and how they continue to operate this way because all the money they make >> lawsuits/fines and such. Don't be surprised if they continue call after the letter. The only way I got them to stop was not answering and then call back every time and say, "I'm not X, I'm not paying, stop calling." I think when you call them you talk to somebody a little higher up than the bottom rung people, it still took multiple tries though.

Oh yeah even if you get them stop, they are likely to sell the debt to another agency which will restart the whole process.

It's easier to send a letter certified: they call from a different number every single day. Sometimes it's a DC area code; this morning it was a 919.

And I called sprint about a scam phone call I got a week? ago, asking to block that number and customer service wouldn't do a goddamn thing. OHNOES WE CANT DO THAT NO NO NONO. So with this current business, I've just PMed someone who works for sprint, explaining, and haven't heard jack.

So...certified letter it is. I hope those fuckers don't refuse delivery

That's $$$ for me, because I can sue their asses for that.

"they are still profitable after all the lawsuits"

Precisely because of:

"some people will pay even if it's not them"

and
Quote :
"they are likely to sell the debt to another agency"

Every day? Damn. My parents get calls for someone with my same name down to the middle initial, who's a year younger than me and has also lived in Georgia and N.C. But they call once every 3 months or so. And they do pass it off to other agencies, which is really annoying.

At least in my case, though, it won't affect my credit. It has to be your SSN on the records to hurt you, and if it is then you're dealing with identity theft, not wrongful debt collectors.

That's exactly what this is.
I got a new phone # recently.

In theory.
The whole industry is known for being sloppy and careless (especially on the collection and reporting end), and nigh impossible to get mistakes fixed.
So one clerical error, and you're in for a good ride.

^Yeah...I had like 5 different numbers calling me for a girl with a completely different name.

I just made sure to answer every time they called, told them I wasn't that girl, and they stopped calling.

True. Fortunately I've stalked my credit reports since this started happening and so far (*knock*) I've been clean.

I've had the same cell phone number since 1997 when cell phones were invented and I am scared to death if I ever have to get a new one because of this.

this isn't really related at all....except for the repeated phone calls i get

they're from a MCDONALDS in wake forest, NC. and they call ALL THE TIME. even AFTER i've told them this isn't who they are looking for (laqisha or laquanda or someone) and they even leave messages (even though my VM says my first AND last name clearly). i don't answer anymore because i've told them a thousand times.

but in their defense they always leave really nice messages. like during inclement weather if she's late to work they call because they are worried about her and say "its unlike you"

so i guess she's a good employee, at least.

i think she might be a manager because they always call asking questions too about the coffee machine and stuff. who knows. i feel bad taht she isn't getting the messages but i TOLD THEM. my number must be like 1 off from hers or something.

Answer the question - why did you refuse to pay money owed in the first place? You could have avoided all this - if you just did the ADULT thing and paid your bills.

Take some fucking personal responsibility.

My parents' landline has been one number off from target for years. About once a month we get a call for target. We used to be nice and helpful, then were annoyed and rude, and now we fake help them. I've given employees the ok to take a day off, be late, and tha I would find someone to cover. I've also put customers on hold, let them overhear me cussing, talking about them to the cat, talking about my drug/prostitute filled night, and given them all kinds of wrong/bad inforation and a shitty customer service experience. I like to tell them to go to walmart, with the other poor -niggers/rednecks/spicks- if they don't like it.

hahah
