Where can I buy some authentic, good, off the boat cuban cigars? When I've been in the (international) caribbean area they're everywhere (but even the locals admit most all are falsely labeled). The tindle box at crabtree has a sign out....but its still not the same. Who's got a cigar guy?

You're not going to have much luck getting people to tell you about any smuggling connections they may have, because:1) There are cops on this board.2) Cubans aren't quite good enough to require some sort of massive smuggling network that would have people in Raleigh.Do what the rest of us do: Have your friends who travel abroad bring the motherfuckers back to you. My experience is that customs doesn't really give a shit about casual travelers.

The thought that Cuba still has the best cigars is a fallacy. In fact, over use of the fields has led to a sharp decline in the quality of Cuban tobacco. Today, the best tobacco comes for places like the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua...and many cigars containing tobacco from those countries are located in Honduras.Cigar Aficionado's top 25 cigars of 2009 had just 3 Cuban cigars on their list. Their best cigar was 100% Nicaraguan tobacco - the Padrón Family Reserve No. 45. At $25 bucks each, it's half the cost of the 2nd place Cohiba[Edited on February 4, 2010 at 12:59 AM. Reason : .]

People only want cubans because of their past eliteness, exclusivity, and because you can't get them in the US, but their quality has really fallen off. I had a few in Canada a few years ago and in Jamaica over the summer. I found them lacking. I paid about $20+ each for them and I felt I could get a better cigar for a $7-8 dominican back home in the US. Their stigma is the only thing they really have going for them.

I have always been a fan of the Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur series. But lately I have been liking the Leon Jimenes cigars.I have never had very good luck with english named cigars like Ashton, Dunhill, or AVO. I don't trust them the same way I don't trust square burgers. There is just something untrustworthy about them. I can't put my finger on it...

the only Padron i've had was the '64 anniversary and it was fantastic.
