paid for by my job.

but it is something like $35/month ($420/year).

i pay just about $10 every time i go to a doctor, any kind of doctor (including specialists), and almost all meds are covered, as well as surgeries. all hospitals except the top 2 fancy hospitals in the city are included in the coverage. but i could even go to one of those 2, pay cash, and then claim the money back later equivalent to what it would cost in the rest of the hospitals. foreign treatment is also covered. congenital conditions and elective treatments/surgeries not covered. neither is AIDS.

(but remember, i am not in the US, so this has no relevance to hussein!)

You pay 35 a month. Your employer probably pays 65 dollars a month or somewhere around then. I'd rather have a system where you just get paid those wages and you buy your own insurance, and premiums would be a lot less if it were like that anyway.

But I didn't know you're not in the United States, so it might not work like that where you are.

What the hell, dude.

He just said that his work pays his premiums. Where are you getting that he pays x amount?

I pay nothing. My employer pays that, as I said.

I pay just $10 at the clinic/hospital every visit.

If I quit work and go freelance, I could get my own insurance for the same amount (~$400/year).

Um, i'm no proponent of socialized medicine, but I don't see how you could think that individual health plans would be cheaper than group plans through an employer, especially those that are self-insured and simply contracts with a large insurance provider to manage the actual system.

I think this thread is for patting 0EPII1 on the back for having health insurance, not discussing the current health care crisis.

ok in that case, I imagine there are several variables in Saudi Arabia that keep medical costs lower than in the US. I'd suspect that several of those variables have a lot to do with Islamic law on how business is conducted.

I'd be interested to know how things are different over there.

Are any parts of the healthcare system in S.A. subsidized by the government?
Physician and other healthcare worker salaries compared with US?
What degree are medical decisions are dictated by insurance companies rather than doctors?
What are the costs of pharmaceuticals vs. the US?
Extra costs of providing healthcare due to overreaching and overly complex legislation?
What are the differences in instances of litigation (malpractice) against healthcare providers?
The costs incurred in practicing defensive medicine to avoid said litigation.
The costs incurred in having lawyers on hospital payrolls to dictate what people can and cannot do based on avoiding litigation.

They are hella dry.
Particles dry up and don't clump together.
Bacteria can live on dust particles
Deserts are usually flat.
Deserts have wind.
The wind blows the dust around.
People breath in small particles of dust.
Sinuses get clogged/infected.

actually its more like the dust inflames the sinuses making them succeptable to household/workplace bacteria and not bacteria flying in on desert sand.

Never done coke! Yes, it is a desert, geographically speaking, but it is very humid on the coast. And I live on the coast of the Red Sea (some of the most beautiful coral in the world). I lived inland in another city for 6 months a couple of years back, and it was extremely dry there. My body would itch all day long, my nose would crack up inside and start bleeding... it was terrible. BUT, my body got used to it and after a couple of months, no bleeding nose, and the body itch was minimal. On the coast however, your body never gets used to it, even if you have lived there for more than 2 decades, as I have. Sticky heat + blocked/runny nose all year, extreme FTL. And of course the dust just compounds the nastiness.

Nothing comes out of my paycheck. My base salary is X and I get X. Medical insurance and other benefits are on top of my salary.

All I gotta say is that the TAJ MAHAL is in INDIA, not Pakistan. As I said there, everybody in the world and their mother knows this, ignoramus.

BobbyDigital, I will have to answer your questions later (the ones I can). Quite an interesting discussion, I must say.

^^

i'd be interested in that info. I'm curious to see how another country without socialized medicine has markedly lower healthcare costs than the US. I suspect that much of the extra costs are due to things unique to the U.S. and has a lot to do with legislation and litigation.

^^ changed all the filters on all the ACs at home today.

i was thinking of buying an air purifier/sanitizer/ionizer for the house. do they work? 3M and Honeywell make them, so i figure they can't be cons.

i know that Sharper Image's ionizers came under the fire a few years back and Consumer Report said they are useless and a waste of money. but what about reputable brands? anybody have experience with such things?

pls to advise. thanks.
