the cut comes from the middle, not the side its not like the ingrown toenail

i guess i pushed the meat of my big toe into where i cut my nail back real far, i never had this happen before but the cut is sittin right on the top side and it hurts to put on a shoe

wikipedia tells me that cutting the nail doesn't work, you gotta cut off the skin instead

Soak it in warm Epsom Salt twice a day, and keep it covered with a bandage and neosporin. Worked for me and I have had similar cuts on my toe. Just keep it clean and you should be ok from infection.
