My parents live down there and everytime I go down there they want to go to a place called California Dreaming. I thought it was a pretty decent place, but I don't recall the price range.

Um, i dont believe i've ever been or know anything by that name. Is it the "lake" near granite quarry, with all the slides?

Nope, sure dont. sorry.

If you like seafood I highly recommend RB's in Mt. Pleasant. It's on 703 on the right just as soon as you cross over shem creek.

You can eat on the deck and watch the dolphins play in the summer. Don't know if they'll be there now but it's still a romantic spot with really, really good seafood.

The Charleston Grill inside the Charleston Place Hotel was the best meal I ever had...but was around $150 for the two of us.

Poogan's Porch is good food, and its haunted (its on the ghost walk), and should run about $75 for two. Lots of celebs eat there and have pics on the wall.

The ghost walks are cheesy, but you walk around and learn some history about Charleston.

Wherever you decide, you might want to call and try to get reservations. I'd imagine Charleston is a pretty popular place for V-Day.

I'm going to Charleston this weekend with my fiance. Don't bother trying to make resrvations they are all booked. High Cotton, booked. Figs, booked. Peninsula Grill, booked. 82 Queen, booked. SNOB, booked. Either go cheaper or even more expensive. I've called a number of places today, yesterday, and the day before for both Sat and/or Sunday...Good Luck

First...all the restaurants everyone mentioned are usually $50-75 a person. I never get out of any of those places on a date for less than $125 (usually at least one app, bottle of wine, two entrees, and a desert). Reading from your posts...are you going to be driving back Sunday night after dinner?? I guess that means no wine. You might be able to get some cheaper entrees and get out of there for around $50-75.

Second...as someone has already mentioned, those places have been booked for weeks now.

I would try the places that are good, yet don't take reservations. You'll just have to get there by 5 or 5:30 and hope that there's not already a line out the door. Go for Basil (best Thai) or Monza (hip, Neopolitan style pizza joint). They are both on Upper King, so not too far from the shopping areas. Five Loaves on Coming Street is also a great little restaurant that has a cozy atmosphere where you can eat a ton of good food for not a lot of money.

Those are the three best restaurants for your situation, IMO.

my two favorite restaurants, though i'd probably rate 82 queen higher when it's a beautiful night, a bit chilly, and you're outside with the heaters on...love that place (pics below)...no surprise that everything's booked, of course

^ 82 Queen is nice. Wife and I went there a few years back. We sat inside because it was raining, but the outside seating seems like it'd be romantic if it is not too cold.

SNOB sucks.

Go to California Dreaming, OAK, or Anson

Expect to spend more than that at any of the places people have suggested though, especially with tip and wine/drinks.

Oh, and if you dont already have a reservation at any of the places listed in this thread, you can forget it. I dont even get in my car here in Charleston on valentines day because its so packed.

RB's isn't terrible, there are several things in the 20 dollar range.. but yeah once you factor in wine, appetizer, dessert, tip, etc any place will get expensive. Another place I really like is the Sunfire Bistro in West Ashley. It is cheaper but still has a lot of really good food and is pretty nice. It usually isn't very busy. I believe it's still closed for renovations though

Just go get burgers at Poe's on Sullivan's Island and walk on the beach- cheap, delicious, and will be less packed then most of the romantic restaurants in the area. Its my number one place in Charleston.

California dreaming is not bad for his specified price range.

He definitely isnt going to SNOB, Oak, Anson, etc.... on $50.

^Yes it is. There are at least 25 better places that California Dreaming in that price range.

^^And Poes is closed for renovations until at least Monday.
