If I remember correctly, that place hasn't been profitable for years.

Regardless, Good night, sweet prince

briefly talked to the new management the other night, they are investing some money into the bar part and upgrading the tv's. that place has really needed some help for awhile, they've had pretty subpar food at not that cheap prices. i doubt they would get rid of the atmosphere, but it could really use some fixing up.

the bar side is awesome

if you go, go straight to the bar and order your food there, youll get great service, especially from stephen

glad to see theyre investing their money on that side, has great drink specials and a good atmosphere

this must be what the "oh damn, shits going down" meeting was about a month ago

here be the article:

A Raleigh dining institution is about to change hands.

Amedeo's at 3905 Western Blvd. in Raleigh will soon be owned and operated by David Harris and Rodney Byrd, the duo behind the Remington Grill chain. The deal should be complete next week.

For the restaurant, an N.C. State staple since Dick DeAngelis opened it in 1963, this will be the first nonfamily owner.

I was unable to reach Jan DeAngelis, company president and daughter of the founder, for comment, but there were clear signs the Italian favorite was in trouble. In January 2008, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but it has remained open.

David Harris said he wants to assure Amedeo's fans that the menu will not change.

"We wouldn't go into it unless we thought we could keep producing the same great food," he said.

Amedeo's will close starting Monday for renovations to the bathrooms and the front of the house. But the main dining room, with all its NCSU memorabilia, will remain intact. Harris said he hopes to reopen by the weekend.

I should also note that there is another DeAngelis sibling, Rick, offering family recipes at Amedeo's North in the North Ridge shopping center at Spring Forest and Falls of Neuse roads in North Raleigh.

The two restaurants are separate entities and will remain so, Rick DeAngelis said.

"I worked at Amedeo's on Western my whole life, and I take a lot of pride in what I do. I'm sad about what's happened there, but it's good to know I'm the only one now who has the original recipes. I am the only Amedeo's now, in my heart.""

so no big changes

it's been a couple of years since I've heard this/eaten there, but I had always heard whispers that one of their managers had a huge drug problem that's why things have kind of died down there for the past couple of years

Like everyone else, I just get the pizza there. No complaints on it.

Eat peanuts
Eat pizza
Drink soda
Drink beer

It's a pretty simple formula that works. Quit trying to be all high falootin' and order your special sausage party lasagna or whatever. They're going to fuck that stuff up.

me and my fiancee live a few blocks away on Marcom and so we've frequented the place enough

- it's overpriced for what it is
- the service is terrible (theyve forgotten something everytime we've gone)
- there's sometimes a weird smell coming from the back

but it is always packed when we go so go figure, unlike gourmet factory which is amazing and always completely empty

Yes, there is a smell issue.

And the food is absurdly priced considering it tastes like it's ninety percent Hunt's tomato paste.

But it's cool. Order a bunch of food, get extra cheese on everything, and gorge yourself in a dark restaurant full of old people having their special date nights and families getting fat.

I kinda dig the tradition with the pictures and stuff, but that was more of a Brother's thing for me. Like, I grew up going to The Rathskeller in Chapel Hill more than I did Amedeo's.

I've never had a service or food issue there. I usually get manicotti which is great and their salad with home made dressing

I haven't been there in ~2 years, though I used to go quite a bit. The last time I went I wasn't too impressed, though maybe 5-7 years ago it was pretty damn good. Hopefully they'll make some changes to the recipes to improve them (and stop cooking the pasta to death) without completely redoing all of them, and they better keep the NC State decor intact.

Maybe it will actually be decent now. Though it will take some convincing for me to go back.
