cool story, bro
2/13/2010 11:48:11 PM
yeah that Tacoma recall is new. I guess they'd rather just issue the recall than have some "investigative journalist" give them bad press or something later
2/13/2010 11:49:03 PM
At first the recalls made me reconsider getting a Tundrabut then I thought of how much their sales are going to suffer, which will drop the price, and up the incentives...so I may just go ahead and pull the trigger on a Tundra. I still don't know.
2/13/2010 11:51:16 PM
i bet their recall numbers are comparable to other manufactures. news is just piling on a foreign companyUSA #1

Avast, my mighty Japanese messiah hath stumbled
2/14/2010 12:00:37 AM
toyota did this to themselves by ignoring warnings, but this is a good chance for ford and chevy to take #2
2/14/2010 12:07:42 AM
I haven't heard anything concerning the Lexus division... fortunately...

^ I actually did a search. Perhaps you should consider taking your own advice? The only thread that is relevant to this issue was found in The Garage section, which is not a discussion or making fun of Toyota:http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=587881Eat it noob.

you just got trolled, I think.
2/14/2010 2:55:55 AM
I think the gubmint is encouraging this media frenzy about Toyota now that they essentially own GM and Chrysler.

^^ I haven't really seen the government say much of anything about it. Anytime anyone dies because of a defect in a car, the media makes a big deal about it. Remember the flipping Ford Explorers with the Firestone tires? At first the media was bashing Firestone for making bad tires, and then it was found out that the Ford dealers (or Ford themselves) were setting the tire pressures too low to help improve the ride of the vehicle. The media was on that for weeks.

back in the 80's an erroneous 60 minutes story pretty much killed Audi in the US over a sudden acceleration. It's the reason you cant shift automatics into drive without applying the brakes first to this day.

MY Ford Fuckus is laughing at all of you now.
2/14/2010 10:03:37 AM
At least they are being open about it.Ohh, uhh, I, uhh, umm, t-t-t-think we muh muh may have a problem with some of our vehicles...
2/14/2010 10:52:02 AM
So Milton's the PR guy?
2/14/2010 10:52:59 AM
^^ No they're not. The brake problem has been around since at least 2003 and they did all sorts of fantastic lying to the NTSB to get around a recall.

They're still denying that the Prius needs a recall, but that's coming too. The cruise control goes crazy and accelerates to 100mph.
2/14/2010 8:24:24 PM
^ That doesn't sound fuel efficient.
2/14/2010 8:28:18 PM
Are the Japanese corporate leaders about to commit seppuku over this great dishonor?
2/14/2010 8:32:53 PM
It wouldn't surprise me if Toyoda did considering how much he's in the doghouse right now.
2/14/2010 8:37:37 PM
Accept humiliation! Restore your honor oh great Toyota emperor!

No you didn't, but I was the first to posit that conspiracy theory in this thread, and I suppose I fall into the "and a few other people," so I replied. Rolly eyes not necessary, big man.[Edited on February 14, 2010 at 10:56 PM. Reason : ]

^ I didn't even have your ass in mind when I typed it.
2/15/2010 1:11:45 AM
So now can we FINALLY be done with all this Kaizen / Lean stuff? TPS just aint what it used to be.
2/15/2010 2:08:28 AM
Maybe someone can explain this to me.While it's Toyota's fault for the defect, why is it that people didn't put their car into Neutral or park when they realized the gas pedal wasn't coming back up?I heard one lady called the fucking police to tell them that her gas pedal was stuck, before crossing an intersection and crashing. Why the fuck didn't she shift her car into neutral? Can Toyota's not go into neutral or park while moving?I mean, I drive a stick, so I can just mash the clutch and be fine (can't say the same about the engine though). Is there something I'm missing with Toyota's?
2/15/2010 3:34:20 AM
^people panic hell you dont even have to put it in neutral if your pedal sticks, the brakes have way more power than the engine
2/15/2010 8:14:54 AM
^^most folks don't know anything about cars and didn't pay attention in driver's ed
2/15/2010 8:23:54 AM
^ Thats what I was thinking, but then I gave the benefit to the doubt to most drivers, and figured they would remember to put the car into neutral. Silly me.
2/15/2010 9:46:08 AM
Yup, for some reason they don't think to turn the car off or slip it into neutral. So they just hold the brakes until they overheat and stop working. Then they die.
2/15/2010 10:11:38 AM
2/15/2010 10:13:36 AM
I haven't read too much into it, but how hard did the pedals stick? I had an old Saturn with a gas pedal that would stick and all I would have to do is put my foot under/beside it and pull it back up, why couldn't they do that?
2/15/2010 11:22:34 AM
later the problem is traced to a US manufacturing plant.... joy
2/15/2010 11:46:28 AM
^^ To my understanding, it got stuck on the floor mat.
2/15/2010 3:31:53 PM
some of the crashed cars were noted to have the floor mats in the trunk
2/15/2010 3:57:06 PM
^ Like I said, it was to my understanding. It's honestly not something I've followed very closely. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual problem was a cable linkage design problem.
2/15/2010 4:00:12 PM
i wasn't trying to one up you
2/15/2010 4:03:59 PM
^ Oh.
2/15/2010 4:08:57 PM
2/15/2010 4:09:33 PM
Wait...so the problem could possibly be a FLOOR MAT? Seems like a pretty easy fix to me...
