" RALEIGH -- In already turbulent times for Wake County schools, Superintendent Del Burns abruptly resigned Tuesday, declaring that he could no longer "in good conscience" work for the system he has served for decades.

That means the new Wake County school board majority, which has pledged to revamp the district and undo several of Burns' initiatives, faces another major hurdle: finding a new chief of day-to-day operations."

Whatever it is I'm sure they'll need 1 billion to get out of the hole they've dug. Then once they realize they're actually going to get the first billion they'll say no, no we actually needed 2 billion.

Bests part is that the School Board members were "surprised" that he was leaving...

Yeah if they're idiots enough that that is actually true, I'm not sure I want them running the school system.

^It has nothing to do with big government or corruption.

He disagrees with the five Republicans who control the school board after the last election, because they want to end all of the diversity policies the county is nationally known for.

and all of those sound like bad ideas to begin with. good riddance (?)

I think his decision is admirable. If I had to deal with those bastards, I'd do the same thing.

Ned: Well, all right, I'd like to call this meeting of the PTA to or-diddely-order. Let's see if we can't put an end to this strike fuss, huh? Mrs. Krabappel, why don't you begin?
Skinner: Boo!
Edna: Oh, "boo" yourself. Our demands are simple: a small cost-of-living increase and some better equipment and supplies nationally recognized diversity program for your children.
Audience: Yeah! Give it to them! etc.
Skinner: Yeah, in a dream world. We have a very tight budget; to do what she's asking, we'd have to raise taxes.
Audience: Raise taxes? They're too high as they are. Taxes are bad. etc.
Edna: It's your children's future.
Audience: That's right. Children are important. etc.
Skinner: It'll cost you.
Audience: No to taxes. My God, they're going to raise taxes. etc.
Edna: C'mon!
Audience: She makes a good case. Good point. etc.
Skinner: [rubs his fingertips together]
Audience: More taxes? The finger thing means the taxes. etc.
Ned: Well, I guess this is a case where we'll have to agree to disagree.
Skinner: I don't agree to that.
Edna: Neither do I!

^^Actually research has indicated that African American males succeed when grouped homogeneously.
I am not sure about the impact on other races though as I haven't seen that part of the research.

Instead of Wacky Wednesdays, I'm in favor of Freaky Fridays. I would love to see some MILFs to end my week.

Hasn't Wake County been doing it for 30 years?

^ Well, I know when I went to Farmington Woods elementary that between my 4th and 5th grade year they started bussing kids from out of town in there. The teachers told us that a lot of new kids were going to be coming to the school and, surprise, fifth grade year there were a lot of kids that I hadn't seen before. I'm not sure if bussing has been the school-wide policy for thirty years. Maybe they've been doing it school by school as each school was big enough to handle enough kids that bussing could be looked at as economical on paper.

Supposedly when they stopped busing scores went down for low income families? They still do a bit of weird busing in CMS. When I was in elementary school I was bused out to Steele Creek Elementary from 3rd to 5th grade, a good 10 minutes from my house without traffic. K-2 I went to Lake Wylie Elementary, I could be there in 3-4 minutes if I had to. My Senior year of high school neighborhoods I passed by on the way to school had to go to a school about 10-15 minutes away with interstate travel if the traffic isn't bad. They were about 4 minutes from the school I went to, and the year before they went to school with me. They screw around with districts and busing a LOT for various reasons in CMS.

and year-long schools have both good and bad points, weren't they only seasonal so families could have more labor force during peak growing seasons? is that really still relevant today, especially in places like Charlotte and Raleigh where you don't have much farming anymore?

amen

year round is awesome, i dont think it should be mandatory though, they do not work as well for long distance seperated parents where the visitation schedule is holidays and summers

^ Maybe if they had worked harder to keep their marriage together they wouldn't have to worry about such things
