This was on my work board and it has me going

Quote :
"To my Aussie counterparts,

A question about Australian culture/norms!

A co-worker's daughter recently went to Australia (a suburb near Brisbane) for a month-long homestay. She is having a blast, eating a lot, enjoying the warm weather, and loves her outdoorsy homestay family. However, she's confused about one aspect of homestay life--that is, her family doesn't rinse the dishes after having soaped/scrubbed them!

Is this phenomenon peculiar to this family, or is it a widespread practice? "

Does anyone in America do this? I prefer my meals served soap-free

I've personally hand washed dishes w/ Australians near Brisbane and they did indeed rinse the dishes as expected.

Apparently it's not

"I know people who do rinse their dishes and people who dont. In my family we do, but my family sometimes has some fairly non typical Australian traits and Im never sure which ones are personal and which are cultural difference"

Quote :
"One of the reasons I left home early was that my family (all except me) DID NOT RINSE the soap off the dishes - that, and all the food I ate had an artificial mint fresh taste. Most families I know back home (across Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide in Australia) don't rinse either. I even stayed with an Australian family in Gifu last weekend (they've lived here a while) and they still don't rinse."

wow, strange

however, i had to work in a cafeteria back in HS, and the washing procedure for the pans was to rinse them off, then dip them in some chemical, then let them air-dry.
