it's not, just like 2000 wasn't the start of the new millennium.

How has it been bugging you for years if it just became 2010. Were that many people discussing the new decade the past few years?

^^^^ no one cares that '01 is technically the start of the new century/millennium it's all arbitrary dates anyways (see calendar shifts over time)

everyone still thinks more or less that 2000 is more significant than 2001

oh no i get it, because 2000 is a huge shift from the boring 19.., so we must glorify it. isn't CC for retarded rants that aren't based in reality?

Yes, because when you talk about the 80's you obviously include 1990

This has already been discussed. In math it would not be a new decade. For practical use and historical classification it is

Regardless the term decade can be used to refer to any sequence of ten years

obviously, the general public calls it a new decade because the number in the 10s digit has changed

decade = 0-9
1990-1999; 2000-2009
millennium = 0000-999
0000-999; 1000-1999; 2000-2999

?

decade describes 10 years; not which 10 years. the which years part is socially set... and we tend to set it as 0-9 because it makes sense to refer to the 80s decade as the 80s, as in 1980-1989

wow, wdprice, you couldn't be any more wrong.

the reason the '80s refer to 1980 to 1989 has nothing to do w/ when a decade technically starts. It has everything to do with the digit in the tens place.

and, as everyone else mentioned, there is no year 0, yet you seem to assert there was. dumbass

hey dickmunch, you know what I'm trying to say. it's all relative anyways, as I said... sure you can say there was no year 0, but there is for each decade/century/etc.

the strict mathematical definition of year counts doesn't really matter here, so you're the dumbass.

Well since they don't know how old Jebus really was when he threw off his mortal coil, I don't know how you can really say what year it is, regardless of any year 0 being in effect or not.

hahaha. you clearly took some time typing up that post, and you got it so badly wrong. don't get mad at me that you failed so spectacularly

^ IIRC, 1AD is supposed to be when Jebus was born, not when he died...

There goes all those folks that claim AD is after death then.

Regardless, they don't know exactly when he was born either.

you truly are that stupid, huh?

yes, the 80's is called the 80's because of the 8 in the tens place... but that is also a decade (the topic at hand) thus the next (new) decade would be the 90s 1990-1999.... which is the social standard... so how do I fail again?

well, yeah, we don't know when he was born, that's for sure. we have a rough idea, though, based on the stellar descriptions given in the Bible.

btw, anyone who thought AD stood for "after death" is a fool. It's "anno domini". As in, "in the year of our Lord", duh. idiots.

you fail for making a reference to the year zero multiple times. and also for insisting that years started from then. not for agreeing with exactly what I said about the 80s. And, if you want to get pissy, every day is technically a new decade. we get it.

the only people who claim that are idiots, ad stands for anno domini or "in the year of Our Lord"

i.e. year 1 is the first year after he was born

and they have it within a 2 year time frame which, for someone born in a backwoods village at that point of time with very little historical evidence, is pretty damn good

Why do people pretend like they are better than you when they insist that a decade is 2001-2010. It can just as easily be 2000-2009.

what do we call this decade? the tens? the teens? the twenty-tens?

for that matter, what are we going to call last decade? zeros? aughts? the two thousands? (that last one sounds more like a century term.)

I want year 0 changed to the year of the penning of the Benny Hill theme song.

It's just as arbitrary and much more fun!

the only people who think that are unc fans and nickleback fans.

And it's already been determinded that Jesus was born either 5 or 6 BC. Also he died when he was 33.

Yeah but you didn't say the year. I just made it more specific. Plus I just get a kick that Christ was born before Christ.

the evidence they have is the fact that the census was called and the king called to kill all children under the age of two.
