I think the real question in here is... who would have friends that go to the Ugly Monkey?

We left the dive bar and wanted to go somewhere random within walking distance. None of us had been to Ugly Monkey since it first opened, figured we'd go be ridiculous. It was that or Flex. The friend in question was sleeveless but definitely had his own style, in that he was probably better dressed than most of the people in there.

alot of places on glenwood used to deny me if I wore sandals (these weren't super nice places or anything- I remember it happening at hi-5 and at stoolies)

and some places I've been to you can't wear hats, and others you have to have a collared shirts...

as for ugly monkey, I've always had a good time there, and they have treated me right. Some douchebag wanted to play beer pong when we had been waiting for like 20 minutes to play and started getting hostile about it- said he would fight us (well me because I was gonna play with some girls) for it, and the guys that had just gotten off the table ended up being an off-duty bouncer, and he just jumped right in and told the guy he wasn't going to do anything... they drunk hostile guy got uppity with him (not realizing that he worked there) and all the bouncers swarmed and removed when he tried something... then they gave me some free beers for having to deal with the douchebag.

i got turned away from hi-5 a summer or two ago because my shorts had pockets on them. they were like cargo shorts only not the baggy and 15+ pocket kind; they looked nice enough and it was a spur of the moment venture.. i was like WTF? really?

the one time i went to ugly monkey i didn't see anyone dressed particularly nicely. in fact it's probably one of the trashiest places i've been to in raleigh.

Okay maybe "better dressed than most of the people there" was a stretch, but I thought the whole point of Ugly Monkey was to revel in a trashy good time. The kid had a metal/rocker look going on, not better dressed but perhaps more coherently so than many there. I was unaware that they had gone all Glenwood-South, a brief glimpse inside struck me as indistinguishable from a Tool Academy casting call.

Yeah.... definitely no desire to go to Ugly Monkey at all.

Would rather go to Horniblows, relax at a table, and get a pitcher.

so are adjustable hats ok? that's stupid, i wear fitted hats all the time, and no they don't have the stickers on them and make me look like a thug. and my boots are timberlands but you probably wouldn't know it. i'm glad i don't go to stupid places like that.

i don't enforce a dress code...people can dress pretty much however they want when they come over to my house... i mean if we plan on going out afterward, then I expect everyone to dress accordingly, but if they are just coming over to hang out, then I don't really care how anyone dresses

so the ugly monkey is classy now?

i'm so confused

last time i went there bartenders were pouring shots into girls mouths, people were dancing in a cage, and fat girls were attempting to dance on the bar.

sleeveless for a guy is unacceptable attire for any sort of 'going out' even to fucking mcdonalds (except for perhaps the drive through)

Cretans

you are supposed to take your hats off indoors if you are a man
