that first video is honestly pretty darn boring; the song has nearly the same mood the entire time. That to me is not good "composing." I have seen some other stuff by that guy that was better though. However, if you're going to listen to some straight up blues/jazz jamming (which to me as a guitar player gets boring quite often even when the guys are really good) you need to find something with a lot more flare and personality. I recommend something like Guthrie Govan.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yPEewaalikEven as someone who listens to a lot of prog and technical rock and metal stuff like this gets pretty stale fairly quickly imo. There are other guitar players out there with similar sounds who shred just as hard and write much better full songs than just jamming. If you want to talk about composing go check something like this out:http://www.myspace.com/opethListen to The Lotus Eater. If you just want to check out the solo, it starts around 3:00. It has so much more personality than something like that jam session posted and is nicely situated in the middle of an overall perfectly structured song.[Edited on February 21, 2010 at 1:25 PM. I don't like being a music snob too much, because that guy is obviously a good technical guitar player, but I'm in agreement with CalledToArms on this one. About a minute and a half in, I thought to myself, "OK, that was an interesting idea," then was surprised to see the song still had another three minutes to go. It was good, but it was boring.
