conceivably, it's a distraction to other students

haha totally...with my impulsiveness I find it very hard to not stare at the computer screen of someone in front of me...especially when they are playing a game or surfing the web...

Also, even thought it was staged it could have gone better....

Guy's laptop makes noise...or guy has really distracting mannerisms with his laptop.
Professor stops his lecture and asks the guy to stop doing what he is doing.
Guy doesn't stop doing what he's doing
Professor stops his lecture and walks out of the classroom and gets the cooler and nitrogen
Without saying a word he fills the cooler up with the liquid nitrogen
Walks over to the student, shuts the laptop and takes it with him to the front of the room
Puts the laptop in the cooler
Student goes "dude what the hell are you doing?" and starts to freak out
Professor walks out of the room
Student continues to freak out
Professor walks back into the room with a large hammer
Student: "What are you going to do to my laptop?????"
Professor takes the laptop out of the cooler and sets it on the table and picks up hammer
Student: "dude what the fuck are you doing????"
Professor slams the hammer down on the laptop and shatters it then calmly says "I do not want to see anymore laptops in my classroom"
Girls in the class scream from shock of what just happened
Student starts to cry

gah there was so much potential there for a really great youtube viral video "crazy professors smashes a student's laptop!"

But they ruin it with a bad storyline and bad acting

I waste time on my laptop all the time by checking websites and playing flash games. Before I had a laptop, I wasted time all the time by doodling or doing crossword or sudoku puzzles. That's best case scenario. Worst case I was drawing full-on comics or writing unflattering haikus about my classmates and instructor.

The only real difference is that with a laptop I can write down verbatim what the professor is saying when he says something important (as opposed to reiterating something for the twelfth time, providing the fifth example of the same concept, or answering the third inane question from someone fishing for participation points), with time to spare for clarifying remarks and all of my time wasting. That's because I type at like 90 wpm and write at about 9.

So, you're telling us that you want a professor to not allow laptops because you have the attention span of a fucking squirrel?

^haha no...I'm just stating that when there is someone playing a game on their computer and they are infront of me I find myself watching them playing the game...I mean I don't really care if anyone brings a lap top to class or not...if I still had one I would bring it with me to class as well....
