This is why God invented Neutral

according to testimony provided by some crying bitch, gears dont matter. she said she put her car in reverse and it continued to accelerate over 100 mph (forward)pretty sure she said turning it off didnt work either[Edited on March 1, 2010 at 12:10 PM. Reason : forward]

I'd have to call bullshit on thatbut then again, i know dick about cars so my opinion probably doesn't matter[Edited on March 1, 2010 at 12:11 PM. Reason : a]

All of these problems are actually only symptoms pointing to the faults in the computer systems. That or this is the coming of CyberDyne/Skynet

i mean, she was a cunt, but if everything is controlled by electrics, it's plausible...i just am not sure about the turning it off bit. maybe the car just didnt recognize the fact it was turned off. it was a lexus, so maybe keyless start? no clue
3/1/2010 12:12:35 PM
she also said she called her husband. I'm sorry, at 100mph, she wouldnt have time to do a goddamned thing.

I also wondered if you could put your car in neutral or try to downshift if this happenedI dont know much about cars so I dont know if those are plausible solutions either. My wife drives a 2006 4runner (which wasnt one of the cars/years recalled) so I was wondering how to find a solution should this problem arise while one of us is driving

even if the drive-by-wire has malfunctioned to the point of uncontrollable 100% throttleif you put the damn thing in neutral it will eventually stopsame with reverse, although if you're really going 100 and throw it in reverse you may rip the entire transmission apart and then you're basically just in neutralbut it'll stop
3/1/2010 12:17:55 PM
I also thought thats why they make, you know, physical EMERGENCY BRAKES....
3/1/2010 12:19:30 PM
but but but its the floormats!1
3/1/2010 12:23:26 PM
^^^Didn't they disprove the "RIP THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION OUT" thing on MythBusters?
3/1/2010 12:26:27 PM
no ideabut i've seen a rear-end gear in a race car get torn up by something much less stressful than shifting into reverse at 100 MPHso i wouldn't be surprised to see it tear up a production transmissionbut my point stands
3/1/2010 12:29:59 PM
^ On MythBusters, they couldn't even get the car into reverse. It just ground the gear.
3/1/2010 12:56:14 PM
fair enoughit'll still stop if it's in neutral
3/1/2010 12:59:03 PM
thats the thing- based on the chicks testimony, there was no coorelation between putting the shift knob in neutral and the car actually going into neutral.like i said, i dont know the extent of the electric' control over shifting, but if it's malfunctioning i woould assume any command to go into reverse or neutral would be ignored

the last car i had with an automatic had a mechanical connectionbut it was a '95so what do i know

lolz if toyotas' brakes were made out of music, i might listen to your opinionz
