No. I think this is most peoples’ reactions, except of course the idiotic media and the FAA.

Is is such a non-issue to me, I can’t see why anyone, at all, cares about this, or who complained about it in the first place.

My guess is the guy who did this had some enemies who seized on this as an opportunity to get rid of him.

But, as has been pointed out, the kid was just saying what his dad told him, which is fine to me. This is not uncommon for smaller ATC at least, and it seems things were well supervised in this case.

I actually do think that this is extremely unacceptable. ATC is a very demanding job. And historically, when fatal crashes happen, it's the summation of minor factors x, y, and z.
I mean, FUCK... throw an unexperienced/untrained ATC operator (even if supervised) into a fault tree equation, and the probability of a fatal crash happening if things start to go wrong rise a great deal.
A part of preventing and mitigating accidents is cutting down on the small errors that lead to a big mistake.
So, while seemingly harmless, this very well could have put people's lives at risk.

He should be reprimanded but not lose his job. ATC is a stressful job, but at the same time, it sounds like it lightened up a stressful situation for many. But it should absolutely not be a standard operating procedure at any ATC center. But don't fire the poor bastard.

Shit when I was a kid I used to fly the plane with dad and passengers in the back. I would ride shotgun and he would let me take complete control sans autopilot. People's lives were at stake then too.
