I got pulled over last night for going 51 in a 45 zone, and then the cop also tacked on an expired insurance ticket. I know the insurance ticket is a fix-it. Think I can get the speeding ticket dropped?

What the fuck? First of all, I'm not white. Second of all, I was driving my sister to the hospital.

well you're white in your pics i'm sure the cop didn't mistake you for a black hispanic asian. Your sister needs to go to the hospital gives you a right to put everyone elses lives in danger? are you an ambulance driver?

cops would've easily called an ambulance and wrote you a ticket if you were hispanic.

this happens all the time. White people are speeding and apolagize to the cop and get let off with a warning.

bttt, you can definitely challenge that and get it waved off. 5-0 isn't suppose to pull people over within 5 mi. over the limit, due to speedometer variations. You should be fine..

A year ago I go one going 70 in a 35 and had 3 cops yell at me for an hour saying I should be in jail. I got it reduced to “driving at an unsafe speed”. 6 over is nothing. Get a good attorney and you can say that you had a faulty speedometer. You might get it dropped, if not you can get it reduced.

i got a ticket last week and i tried to explain the rules to the cop the we can go 10 mph over the speed limit, and he said he can give me a ticket for going 1mph over

6mph over is just plain nuts, i'd sue his ass

^^ wtf are you even talking about? You tried to see if you had run in to the dumbest piece of shit cop in the whole world? Tried to explain the "rules?"

stfu

OP: you are going to have to pay a civil fine for not having current insurance (unless you have proof of current insurance at the time of the ticket). I am pretty sure that you can either spend $300 on a lawyer and get it dropped or you can spend like $25 on the fine and $150 on the court costs. Ball is is your court.

^ My sister's husband got a written warning ticket for going 25 in a 25 in Cary. The police officer said he was driving at an unsafe speed.

this is insanity, either y'all are not from around here or just inexperienced
there IS an unwritten rule, that drivers can go up to 10mph over the speed limit, i always go about 10mph over and have never in my live been caught for it
if a cop pulled me over for going less than 10mph over, i'd jump his ass

.....really? Of course everyone drives 10 over (I do it everywhere I go) However, if you really think that you could argue said point with an officer then you are mentally deficient.

Considering its still against the law.

this happened to me and it was voluntarily dismissed. I had to spend $60 on a lawyer but I did not have to spend another $155 for court cost and fees.

I'm surprised nobody caught this....

If someone is going 51 in a 45 and most people are going 39 in a 45, then he is going 12 MPH over everyone else....

I do have a current insurance. It's just the insurance card I have with me is expired. I'm not really worrying about this issue because I know I can just show up with my current insurance and get it dropped. It's the speeding ticket that I'm worrying about.

Well if you can find the lawyer that rep'd punchmonk found then I would go that route. That is about the cheapest I have ever heard of a lawyer. Otherwise you can just show up on your court date and ask if they will drop it. They might just reduce it to faulty speedo or other equipment.

I paid it and got the fuck over it.

i had always heard it was +1 mph for every 10mph in speed because of the margin of error in the radar gun or something. so if you are traveling 50mph they'll give you up to 5 over. i'm not sure if that's true or not, but it's a lot more believable than a fucking unwritten traffic rule.

it'll get dropped

likely before your court date if you call/write a letter

worst case you'll be out $50, no points on your insurance

its like you people love paying tickets
these unwritten rules happen cause of guys like me giving cops hell every time they try to abuse their power
pansies like y'all make it difficult by accepting tickets with a smile saying "thanks office for keeping me safe, i'll try to stay exactly on the speed limit next time"
