I dig Red Oak, but I'm not too keen on paying 18.99 for a 12 pack when Sam Adams is 11.99 at the same store.

I still paid for it though.

as will a lot of red oak fans

that is why the price will stay at 18.99

all we had to do was show a lil restraint...

Red Oak is probably the most overpriced mediocre beer I've ever tasted. Easily among all NC brewers, at least. Fuck them.

I respectfully disagree.

Granted, the bottles are on the high side.

But, I really enjoy drinking it. I don't classify myself as a beer connoisseur or anything snotty like that, but I do enjoy drinking good, flavorful beer, and red oak has a good flavor to me.

The worst is that Red Oak is $20 for 12 AT THE BREWERY.

If anywhere, I would think they would sell them for cheap there cause they don't have to pay for distribution costs. Should be $10 for a 12 pack.

The tour is pretty lame too (as opposed to the CBC tour which kicks ass) It costs $5 and you only get to drink little ass dixie cups of beer at the end. You do get a "free" pint glass though.

They did say they were planning on starting to bottle Battlefield Bock later this year though. I'm about that.

my father in law and brother in law go to a party every year where the owner of Red Oak always attends. They say he is a very down to earth guy. next year i'm planning on going with them.

18.99/12 is still only 1.58/beer, which i'm willing to bet is decidely a good bit less than the bar price.

It's crap compared to every other NC beer. Beers that sell for $9 a six pack. Granted that isn't a lot less, but it's all much better beer!

im pretty sure the only bars with 16oz glasses are the irish bars, all the rest have 12oz "pint" glasses

1 US pint = 16 US fluid ounces

all the standard shaker style pint glasses are 16 ounces

next time you go to the bar, get a 12oz beer and pour it into one of their "pint" glasses. you will see quickly that it fills to the top

edit: went to go check this out with one of my pint glasses and 2 cups of water. it went over a little, so a normal pint glass does hold 16oz, but when they fill it at the bar they arnt going to fill it all the way to the top. so you get a 12oz pour in a 16oz glass

i have, and i would do it right now if i wasn't about to go to bed as there are about 30 downstairs for me to choose from. the standard shaker glass that you would get at the saucer for a standard beer, like a red oak, is a 16oz glass. a bottled beer usually leaves about 2.5-3 fingers at the top which is plenty to make up the ~4oz.

the pint glasses that you mentioned above, like you would usually get for a guinness, are imperial pint glasses and measure 20oz

^just saw your edit...yes a lot of times its the bartender's poor pouring skills that cheats you
