Yeah its kinda weird. The ring is supposed to symbolize our commitment to engineering safe structures, processes, and whatever engineers work with. The steel for the ring used to come from a huge steel bridge that fell and killed some people, so its supposed to be a constant reminder of how much impact our jobs have on everyone's safety.
