why must you pronounce it "crowns?"

Let me add "ambalamps", "liberry", "videa", "mundy-sundy", and "fustrated"

people are on two different topics here

saying crans or crowns instead of crayons

and

saying care-a-mel vs carmel

or root vs rut

is a dialect thing not the same as the crayons example

I've never heard anyone say crowns.

The rest of this stuff is just whining about regional dialects. Get over it, people pronounce things weird no matter where you go.

Amen.

It sounds like someone needs to sit in on one of Walt Wolfram's lectures.

I understand this. Not all pronunciations get on my nerves. Just those few.

I've never heard "crowns"

I have, however, heard "cralyns"...I've been known to say "cralyns" myself from time to time

I've heard this before, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out how you're supposed to differentiate them unless you go out of your way to say PEEEIN or something equally annoying.

I could never say my friend Ginny's name correctly. It pissed her off to be called "Jenny."

I, too, suck at life from time to time.

I am often insecure when I say Ken's name.
