i've been dating the same girl for 5 years and I am also getting ready to graduate in may.

i think i would be doing her a massive disservice by not allowing her to live on her own for at least a few years of her life

I've had 5 friends get married in the last 18 months

I've tried to talk all 5 of them out of it

I'm 0 for 5

However, 2 have since divorced, so small wins for me

marriage is a ginormous financial commitment. even though i've been dating someone for a long time and i definitely want a wedding i don't know that i want the actual marriage part. hehe.

i had to so i could go live with my then-bf... in doing that i gave up my right to school, work and healthcare for several months. everything is still good between us though, but im getting a bit testy, especially now that my drivers license expired.

Financial commitment, as in the wedding will cost a lot? Or as far as combining finances goes? As for the former, it doesn't really have to be that expensive.

i'd say combining finances.

money is the #1 reason for divorce, apparently.

and i'm thinking of things like buying property together, investments together, etc. i guess you can keep everything separate but a) even that doesn't always protect you and b) i'd venture to say that isn't what MOST people do!

If ya truly found yourself the right person, then it doesnt really matter when you do it, the problems come in when you marry the wrong ones.

Of my 3 closest gfs here, all 3 filed for divorce within a year of their wedding. Of course, the divorce process dragged out, but it was over within the year. Sad.

I blame that and the sentiments in this thread on the "me centered" society we live in.

there is no bit.ly link in this thread.

but the second half of your post is probably correct, given that no one knows wtf you're talking about.

I found my one and I love him more than anyone else. It will be 5 years in June. Some people really believe in marriage and some don't. I am ok with that.

If one makes more than the other they can end up paying less in taxes. Also, pressure from family. Living together without being married is still taboo for some right wing religious freaks. Sucks to be my parents, they are said religious freaks and I haven't told them I got married. I want to see how long they go before trying to give me shit for living with the boy.

Highly unlikely, as she seems incapable of referring to him as anything but 'the boy'.

When I was young I thought I would meet my wife in college like my parents did. Then when I got to college I figured I would just fuck as many girls as I could and then find a good girl after college. Now that I'm about to graduate, I feel like I have a lot more women to fuck and experiences/ travels to partake in before making a commitment to anyone else. Marriage is sooo 1950 anyways.

by the time im married it'll be three years after i've graduated.
cody - four

we've debated more than once about just not getting married and then having kids later on when we felt like it (we've known for a pretty long time we're gonna stay together)....

but we've ultimately decided against it, for our own reasons
