She is not fiscally competent - in the first year of her term she tried to get a budget passed that was like 22bill and would effect about 1700 state jobs (aka lay them off), only to be shot down to have a 21bill budget (less than what she proposed) passed that would only effect about 700 state jobs. Personally I don't like her stance on the lifer's trying to get out under the 40 year rule with good behavior by blocking what the supreme courts say is right, and that's to let them out because they fulfilled their active sentences according to NC law that they were incarcerated under. I can't wait until voting season comes back around. She just simply not competent enough to be governor in my opinion.

It was not a loophole. Life was determined to be 80 years by the law, and was automatically cut in half to 40 years upon hitting the prison gates (all sentences under the old law were halved at the prison gates). Tell me where was the loophole? It was laid out plain and simple. All I know is that the law is the law. They served their time according to the law, they deserve to be released. These people where pretty much kids when they committed these crimes, and have grown-up, and most of them have actually had good behavior for the entire time in prison (that's says a lot for someone who doesn't really except to get out at least for 40 years), and were involved in self-improvement activities. [Edited on March 11, 2010 at 8:22 PM. Reason : /]
3/11/2010 8:21:00 PM
the loophole is that when someone is sentenced to "life" in jail, you expect that to mean for the rest of their life, not for 40 or 80 years]
3/11/2010 8:28:43 PM
They "DEFINED" life under the old law as 80 years... is that really that hard for people to understand?
3/11/2010 8:30:13 PM
3/11/2010 8:31:11 PM
I don't give two flying fucks how well they behaved when they got put in the slammer. Another human being no longer exists because of malicious pre meditated acts by these fucking animals. To think they can get out from behind bars and live out 20 years or so free and clear is unfathomable. You kill another human in the way they did, your life as you knew it is finished.
3/11/2010 8:31:25 PM
^^^ok, the "loophole" is that....[Edited on March 11, 2010 at 8:32 PM. Reason : x3]
3/11/2010 8:32:02 PM
Yes you are right under the current law, but not according to old law. They should have just given them 200 years to make sure they did not get out, but instead they can them a chance to get out, because they were essentially kids. Had this been middle-aged people they probably would never get out, since they use to hand down life+40 (60 years basically) to make sure that you did not get out.^ Wow. A loophole exist when something can be interpreted as something else when it does not have a clear definition, life in those days were CLEARLY DEFINED AS 80 YEARS.[Edited on March 11, 2010 at 8:38 PM. 3/11/2010 8:34:46 PM
I agree but unfortunately it doesn't work that way UNLESS they RETRO-ACTIVATE what life meant when they made the new law and they DID NOT do that.
3/11/2010 8:36:30 PM
seedless I fully understand what the law saidmy point is that if anyone is sentenced to "life in prison", the common understanding of that phrase implies someone spends the rest of their life in prison...I'm sure the 80 year deal was something based on average life expectancy or something...but why can't it be based on someone living in prison until they die? i wonder if you asked the jurors who convicted the people if they would've voted for the death penalty if they had known what would have eventually happenedbtw, she loves semen]
3/11/2010 8:38:36 PM
It can work whatever way the people want it to work. Who is going to lobby against the state legislature signing an emergency act to stop this? Is it in North Carolina's constitution that says the legislature can't do that?
3/11/2010 8:38:54 PM
why is there soap box in my chit chat?
3/11/2010 8:39:25 PM
^^^Because that not how it was defined. I know you understand.^^Oh there is nothing wrong with your view, but to purposely go back and change a law just because people are actually going to get out, versus just having it on your agenda to change it is vile, deceitful, and something a scoundrel would do. I do not want these qualities in my governor.[Edited on March 11, 2010 at 8:42 PM. Reason : /]
3/11/2010 8:40:14 PM
^^you could end it all by posting n00d pix of yourself]

3/11/2010 8:41:49 PM
I'm against sticking years onto someone's jail sentence.
3/11/2010 8:42:55 PM
I hope you are not joking. I think its very messed up to do so.
3/11/2010 8:43:36 PM
Well, it looks like Due Process says nothing can really be done. GG North Carolina, way to fuck this one up.
3/11/2010 8:44:05 PM
I agree with ^^that too, I just think the law needs to be redefineddo you think the jurors in the trial were aware they were going to be letting convicted murderers out on the streets eventually?^the justice system is a joke[Edited on March 11, 2010 at 8:45 PM. Reason : .]
3/11/2010 8:44:21 PM
Yes I do. Also, these days under the new law parole does not exist, so life is natural life.[Edited on March 11, 2010 at 8:47 PM. Reason : /]

What the ACLU said about the matterhttp://www.aclu.org/prisoners-rights/aclu-north-carolina-calls-governor-beverly-perdue-and-attorney-general-roy-cooper-rYou best believe if these people end up staying in NC they'll be hounded to no end by their local LEOs trying to nab them on something.
3/11/2010 8:48:12 PM
A governor that does not uphold the law has to gtfo of office in my opinion. I'll def be at the polls when time comes. Its all a political game, obviously. Tough on crime! gets the votes, haha. [Edited on March 11, 2010 at 8:52 PM. Reason : /]

Exactly. Its not about taking up for wrong-doers its about upholding what was written as law. She is essentially breaking the law in my opinion.
