thing about curing cancer is that 1/8 of all deaths suddenly don't happen (they'll happen later, of course, but curing cancer would mean a LOT more old people hanging around, and considerably increased population growth)

the nice thing about curing AIDS is that you eliminate a lot of sexual worry and caution, in addition to saving lives (not that it's relevant to my romantically inept ass)
