I don't really get the appeal, but I want to understand why. What's great about Myrtle Beach?

I don't think there is anything appealing about Myrtle Beach whatsoever.

But every now and then a group of friends will get tickets to a good show at the House of Blues and spend a couple nights up there. We just get belligerently drunk and "go out on the town." We could have fun anywhere we go like that, but Myrtle Beach is so ridiculous with it's combination of guidos and rednecks, that it just adds to the comedic value. So we always end up having a blast and coming back with some crazy stories.

That is the benefit of Myrtle Beach. Oh...and good outlets, Grand Prix......and putt-putt!!!

I once saw a 300 pound black redneck drunk drive his bike into UPS truck outside of an Outback steakhouse in Myrtle Beach, then get up and go inside to eat

My ex seemed to think it was the greatest place on Earth. He also thought Orlando and Tampa were too high-falutin'.

Thank God I never suggested NYC, Vegas or Miami as travel destinations.

they hold the national miniature golf tournament in Myrtle Beach (played at one of the 3 "courses" they use last time)

and there is plenty to do for a week of family vacationing (there is alot of stuff you can do with your kids) as well as plenty of adult entertainment. I personally prefer to go a little further south to litchfield or one of the other little areas that are quieter, but that's just me

Beaches aren't worth it, really. Laser tag, mini golf and other shit like that... fun, but expensive. Erh, okay, well, I'm willing to pay for laser tag honestly.

When you're a kid going there, which my family used to do when we were younger, it was pretty fucking sweet. For a stretch between puberty and being able to legally drink, it's not that great. Afterwards though, it's such a sleezey place I can see why it might be fun, but I'd rather go to a lot of other places first.

I like Myrtle Beach, mainly because Horry County is one of my company's best clients that gives us great references and new clients.

Myrtle sucks now that they got rid of the Pavilion, the area it was in (Ocean dr. or blvd.?) has fallen to total shit. However, I grew up between Raleigh and Calabash/Myrtle area

Good things:

Tangier Outlet Mall
Broadway at the Beach
Barefoot Landing
House of Blues
Myrtle Waves
Painter's Ice Cream
Champions Strip Club
Bottoms Up Strip Club - let you bring in your own beer for free, no cover.
Medieval Times!!!
Mini Golf - top notch
Regular Golf
Headboat fishing

Tourist traps:

Grand Prix (sorry, used to be great but is wayyyy overpriced now. >$8 a ride? no thanks)
4:20 superstore - most overpriced headshop in the world, but still kind of cool
Club Kryptonite - totally crap guido wannabe club
any Wings store - seriously? who's really gonna take care of a hermit crab its whole exciting life?
Casino Cruises - horrible. shittier odds than AC and Vegas, just don't do it, you will lose your money.
Calabash Style Seafood Buffets - over $25 a person, not worth it.
Any of the Grandstrand "beaches" - no waves for surfing, annoying lifeguards, can't go in past your chest deep, have to pay for chairs, etc.
Bikers Weekend - traffic is AWFUL, no parking, loud jackass bikers

this is all I can think of for now

When I go I stay in Cherry Grove, less crowded and a nicer beach. plus i can drive to north myrtle very easily and do about anything i want to there.

ncsuallday pretty much nailed the rest. kryptonite was the worst club i've ever been to. i also went to the "freaky tiki" about 10 years ago and thought it was cool then...but now i realize it was crappy also..

my grandma loves to do the casino boats but one of the main ones actually just went bankrupt

I'd rather go to Wrightsville/Wilmington or if I feel like driving further Hilton Head/Savannah.

I would never purposefully go there or anything.

But I just like knowing it exists.

you'll love Myrtle beach if you're into pancakes, rebel flag bikinis, and dioramas of Jesus surrounded by cowrie-shell flamingos

Don't forget rednecks.

When I go to the beach all I want is a stretch of quiet sand and clean ocean and some beers in a cooler.

Great selection of restaurants on Kings Hwy, except for the overpriced calabash places. Other than that, it really blows.

I lived in Myrtle Beach when I was like 5yrs old. I collected cans and sold them for 4 quarters please. I had a pony, he was a Welsh pony too so to a 5yr old, I was basically a Dragon Rider. I had a big-wheel too. A-10 Warthogs flying low in pairs all the time. Sand dollars were cool.
