It seems like regular people just don't use it as much anymore. They are using craigslist or classifieds on various message boards. All I see are wholesalers and made-in-China companies selling with Buy it Now.

Regular people have figured out it's a pain in the ass if you're only selling a few items. It's easier and more convenient to use craigslist.

depends on what it is

i usually try craigslist first but if it's something there isnt much of a market for then ebay usually ends up working better

although shipping can be a pain in the ass.. esp for something like a guitar amp that i sold a few months ago to someone in CA

Ebay owns craigslist. It's money for them either way.

Craigslist doesn't make money off of each item posted though. It's in Ebay's best interests to keep CL shitty.

They make money by charging for business listings in big cities. But you're correct, you'll never see a "multi-city search" on craigslist. Even their current search engine is crippled: If you search for "basket", "baskets" won't show up. Ebay may not own a controlling interest, but they call the shots. I wouldn't be surprised if they leak fake craigslist mugging stories too.

ebay has a stake in craigslist but has very little power over them. that's partly why they are in court right now

I stopped using eBay when PayPal starting putting your money on hold if you sold an item until you got positive feedback or you used one of their shipping labels and they knew it was delivered. They just trying to collect interest off of your money while it sits for about 5 days at the very least before you get it. I am sure a lot of people don't really use eBay anymore for selling stuff for this reason.

???

I am a regular person, and actually do quite a bit of selling on eBay. 13 million unique visitors monthly sure does wonders for me getting my inventory worldwide exposure.

I have no idea what you are talking about here, Paypal is the only form of payment we accept and while it does have some frustrating limitations, it makes things a LOT easier in our shipping department. However they have never put my money on hold pending feedback or shipment through them. If you want you can send me some $$$ now and I will spend it as proof.

too much overhead for ebay
listing fee
selling fee
paypal fee
shipping fee
and all that BS that comes along with ebay, but still ebay seems to be doing fine, they also have a lot of companies selling products there

eBay doesn't put my money on hold. They only do that to n00bs.

It does seem like the eBay/Paypal fees have gone up quite a bit in recent years. Some things I just can't sell around here though, so I have to go to eBay to open up new markets.

Craigslist has gotten terrible IMO. I've had a lot of items I tried to sell at dirt cheap prices on Craigslist and all I got was spam or people wanting it practically for free. Case in point...My old snowboard bindings. I listed them several times over a few weeks on CL for $25-$30 and all I got were people sending me messages saying "I'll give you $10 if in excellent condition" or "what's the least you'll take for them?" I put them on eBay and got $70 for them in one week.

they have started doing this to a LOT of people.. including myself. it's really fucking annoying. if they dont leave any feedback then it takes 30 days before you get your money.. if they do leave feedback then it's a day or two after they leave it that your money is released

this is mainly for newer sellers though.. it wouldn't do it to someone like you who has been using the same account for (presumably) a while

I buy shit from individuals weekly on ebay, just bought a 2x12 for my amp and bought a new guitar last week from a dude. I buy a bunch of shirts on ebay that are pressed or screen printed rather by people. Just bought two shirts on ebay from a chick who actually lives in raleigh.

idk for guitar stuff our local craigslist is pretty shitty, as are gboro and charlotte's

I much prefer to sell shit on ebay. Its done faster, no driving across town for someone who doesn't show up, you don't get a thousand emails from people asking you if you'll take 50% for it the day you list it, and so on. Never understood why people bitch about 3% fees on paypal. I sold my last guitar amp on ebay for 800 bucks 3% of that is 24 bones, 9 times out of 10 you aren't that hard up for cash and you're just being stingy, and don't like the idea of someone taking your money for no reason. Well that shit pays for your protection.

ib4 some retard who is incapable of following instructions and reading complains about how paypal held their money after some shit that they fucked up themselves.

I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

Yeah I have been on eBay since 1999, but I started a new account when I officially started the business about a year and a half ago.

thats why you google search "craigslist basket" and you get a multi city search where baskets will show up.
