They had at least 1 tornado in Gaston County tonight, just about 15 minutes down the road from my place. Those were some rough storms.
3/29/2010 2:31:19 AM
Tornado was near Crowders mountain. There was also another tornado like 9 miles northwest of charlotte. In southwest charlotte the most we got was... something slightly smaller than dime sized hail and a bit of thunder
3/29/2010 3:05:35 AM
this rumbling is awesome
3/29/2010 3:41:27 AM
fuck dude, thunder just shook the house so bad it knocked stuff off of the mantle.[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 3:42 AM. Reason : in cary]
3/29/2010 3:42:02 AM
haha im in cary too. that was like someone shot off a cannon right next to my window
3/29/2010 3:59:40 AM
3/29/2010 4:03:18 AM
you must be in south cary
3/29/2010 4:04:10 AM
Harrison, right near downtown
3/29/2010 4:04:52 AM
so more towards the north. prob like 3-4 miles from me. thats crazy that it could be loud in both places. i saw the flash out the window, i thought it came from more south of me like near tryon rd or something
3/29/2010 4:06:42 AM
yeah I saw the flash too, I thought it was like right outside my house haha
3/29/2010 4:08:27 AM
it was def closer to you then. it took about 1.5-2 seconds after the flash to explode, but damn was that loud..[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 4:10 AM. Reason : boom]
3/29/2010 4:10:19 AM
3/29/2010 4:11:04 AM
haha yeah I dont think ive ever had the house shake so bad from thunder
3/29/2010 4:11:28 AM
^I've had lightning hit my house 5 feet from where I stood. The house did not shake. It was the most awesome experience I've ever had. The static build up just before... the intense flash of light... it was incredible.
3/29/2010 4:19:23 AM
did you hear thunder at all?ive read somewhere that if you are directly underneath a lightning strike, then you wouldnt hear thunder. im not sure what kind of physics are involved in that, and i also wonder how true that is[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 4:22 AM. Reason : d]
3/29/2010 4:20:53 AM
yes. it was loud, but I'd heard louder that was likely 1-2 miles away. it's weird though because it felt like time slowed down as it was striking. idk it was adrenaline or something but the light seemed like it stayed in the room I was in for like 10 seconds (lightning hit the house at the satellite that was a couple feet to the right and a few feet in the air from where I was standing near a window). Felt like a full 5 before I heard it. I know it came in because it fried the both the satellite receivers, a router, and 3 computers.
3/29/2010 4:31:15 AM
never been that close to lightning. never want to be either. sounds crazy though
3/29/2010 4:35:06 AM
if I could be like 5 feet from being struck again without thousands of dollars of equipment being fried again, I would definitely put myself there again.
3/29/2010 4:36:35 AM
"that was like someone shot off a cannon right next to my window inside my house"

were those transformers blowing up, cause i aint never heard thunder so loud in my lifei woke up several times thinking i dreamed the explosions
3/29/2010 10:22:45 AM
I too woke up from this thunder just before 3:45 am. I live in Cary and just the sheer roar and shaking my first thought when I was startled awake was oh shit tornado get the fuck up! Then after the place stopped shaking I went back to sleep.
3/29/2010 10:23:29 AM
^yeah it was the loudest boom i've ever heard and i actually got scared that something had blown upi wasn't able to go back to sleep til after 5am
3/29/2010 10:26:37 AM
i slept right through it with paper thin walls and a window open
3/29/2010 10:43:56 AM
I came very close to being hit on a golf course once...it struck about 10 feet away from the golf cart. It was crazy, and somehow drained the golf cart too.
