Couples Swept Away in Negril...it was fantastic, esp since it was all inclusive
4/2/2010 12:21:31 PM
My husband and I went there for our honeymoon. We stayed at Sandals Negril. We thought it was nice (we were in one of the high-end suites). We were glad we chose an all-inclusive resort so that we didn't have to think/worry/talk about money during our honeymoon.]
4/2/2010 12:22:29 PM
I stayed in Trenchtown

"I remember when we used to sit, in the government yard in Trenchtown ... "

I'd never stayed at an all-inc and was warned (though I don't really remember who warned me, when or why) but we went to the Riviera Maya in November and stayed at an all-inc and it was totally worth it.

4/2/2010 12:31:39 PM
I stayed in mariners beach club in Negril. It sucked. If you aren'tgoing all inclusive I would pick a different island.
4/2/2010 12:49:31 PM
we are going to an all-inclusive in negril....is that the best beach area on the island?
4/2/2010 1:13:01 PM

stayed at a sandals all inclusiveit was horriblelike, i think there's two sandals on the islandsomehow we got the shittastic onePOOR RESEARCH IT APPEARSthat was early in my "book trips online" career
4/2/2010 1:14:44 PM
Its probably a tie between negril or ocho rios
4/2/2010 1:15:31 PM
We did the Windham at Rose Hall a few years back. All-inclusive, and we were in one of the good suites. It was fun.
4/2/2010 1:18:25 PM
we stayed in a resort in Montego Bay, would not recommend that place. Not a lot to do, "the strip" is rundown and flooded with locals trying to sell you bracelets and drugs, and you have to pay to go on the nicer beaches. If you dont pay to go on the beach and go to a free one, you will be hounded by locals trying to sell shit
4/2/2010 1:18:49 PM
My family is from Jamaica... I'm Jamaican. I've stayed in at least 14 different hotels/villas/bed &breakfasts there. I'd recommend going to the east side of the island. Portland is beautiful, and right by rainforest jungles and shit. If you want more specific info PM me. There are tons of awesome places you NEED to go that lots of people don't know about, but also many things you need to be careful about.
4/2/2010 1:27:34 PM
we're staying at one of the Couples resorts. I knew nothing about Jamaica so initially I was thinking Montego Bay until I did a little research. I mean we fly into there but...Been told to go to Margueritaville (I butchered that spelling) so I can jump on the trampoline in the middle of the ocean...and to go to Rick's cafe. Can't remember if we're on Bloody Bay or 7 mile beach but I think both are nice, right....?terp, been told to stay far far away from Kingston...the only thing about going to other parts of the island is that we aren't renting a car The resort has a bunch of excursions but not sure if any take you to the east side of the island though I've heard there are some awesome places there.
4/2/2010 1:33:42 PM
what is there to know about ocho del rio?going there in two weeks on a cruise and know nothing about it
4/2/2010 1:34:42 PM
let me get this straight, you have already booked a place to stay, but you're soliciting other places to stay?are you planning on changing your reservation?[Edited on April 2, 2010 at 1:36 PM. Reason : v]
4/2/2010 1:36:05 PM
our resort offered lots of excursions as well, but we wanted to be able to come and go as we pleased. we were able to hire a private driver and he took us wherever we wanted to go. we had him take us to a local craft market to buy some neat souvenirs and to Rick's Cafe.
4/2/2010 1:38:06 PM
M2C - Kingston is a real city... it's where I stayed the last time I went to Jamaica. There are some real gems there, but it would take some serious planning to be able to get there. Either way, I meant more Port Antonio or Golden Grove. You can go to Dunn's River Falls one day... it's in Ocho Rios, nice place.
4/2/2010 1:42:39 PM
margaritaville is alright if you like overpriced bar food. Its not really any more special than buffalo wild wings, or any other chain bar you like in america. they do have the floating trampoline, so thats kinda cool, but really, you cant really spend a whole day there, there just isnt enough to do and the drinks/food is expensive.I dunno, I might not be the right person to ask about montego bay, we just didnt have a very good experience. It was made better because it was the first vacation me and my (now) wife ever went on after we first met. I would definitely recommend staying in the sandals resort across the bay from "the strip". We stayed in a small resort all the way at the end of the strip and had to walk through a couple blocks (that werent lit up by the lights of the strip) to get from the resort to the strip - it was shady to say the least at night when youre drunk and walking home from the bar - lots of sketchy locals.
4/2/2010 1:46:43 PM
im sure you'll end up walking up the waterfall tihngieit's touristy as shit, but kinda sweet at the same time
4/2/2010 1:50:02 PM
(I get the impression this is just a, "Look at me. I'm going to Jamaica." thread.)

^^ considering the OP, there's a 110% change you are correct
4/2/2010 2:20:08 PM
stayed at the grand palladium all-inclusive (about $100 cab fare from airport in montego)it had its fair share of problems but we all had a blastdon't expect much from the jamaican workers especially the women
4/2/2010 3:38:53 PM

I'll be at Sandals Negril in July, wootwe also got a butler room. for people who have been, do you think it was worth it? We did it mostly so he could save us a seat on the beach/pool if we wanted and to bring us breakfast in the mornings
4/2/2010 3:50:06 PM
This thread is relevant to my interests.I've been trying to figure out where to take a nice vacation to and Jamaica seemed as good a place as any. Knowing nothing about Jamaica, I'd been seeing a bunch of deals in Montego Bay, but (from this thread) apparently that's because it sucks. So the eastern side of the island is a lot better, terpball?
4/2/2010 4:01:09 PM
butler is worth it, if you can afford it. thankfully we could.
4/2/2010 4:01:13 PM
first off....do you guys really think that I....I would be bragging about this? I mean really? Come on now, this is mytwocents we're talking about here.second...this thread was inspired by the 'What Mayan Ruins' thread from yesterday.third...we already booked, and the trigger pulled, but I just wanted to know if anyone had actually stayed at any of the Couples resorts or which ever other ones. AND I thought then I could get some good advice which SOME of you have indeed given.
4/2/2010 4:01:50 PM
yeah, I'm not sure if we can afford it or not, but we got it anyways, haha^^ what kind of room did you have? We wanted one of those swim up bars but we could not afford those[Edited on April 2, 2010 at 4:03 PM. Reason : .]

If youre staying in Montego Bay - whats the name of the resort youre staying in? and is it near/on "the strip"?
4/2/2010 4:04:21 PM
we stayed in the "Honeymoon Penthouse Beachfront One Bedroom Crystal Lagoon Suite" at Sandals Negril[Edited on April 2, 2010 at 4:05 PM. Reason : negril]
4/2/2010 4:04:53 PM
not sure if you were asking me or not...but not staying in Montego Bay...staying in Negril
4/2/2010 4:05:07 PM
Also, am I going to be fucked if I can't swim?
4/2/2010 4:05:35 PM
you definitely don't need to be able to swim to enjoy Jamaica. The water is soooooo calm. No waves at all, just a few ripples (mostly wake from the boats)[Edited on April 2, 2010 at 4:07 PM. Reason : ]
4/2/2010 4:06:53 PM
Let me re-phrase that. I can't swim, tread water, or do anything other than sink like a rock.
4/2/2010 4:09:01 PM
^I'd advise not going in the water in Jamaica or anywhere else for that matter. It's not usually the Jews who can't swim...hmmmm
4/2/2010 4:12:14 PM
not sure about other resorts, but Sandals Negril (pretty sure this applies to the other Sandals locations too) has roped off swimming areas that are shallow. I (5'4") could touch the bottom everywhere except right at the far perimeter.
