I always LOL when athletes used "humbled" or "humbling"

Reporter: You just broke an all time record, how do you feel?
Athlete: It's a humbling experience

Reporter: You were compared to these hall of fame players, what's that like?
Athlete: I'm honored and humbled by the comparisons

I'm going to need some direct quotes.

And also an English major's opinion on the matter.

Is FroshKiller around?

I think Kobe Bryant knows what it means, i've heard him use it right.

Reporter: How do you stay on top?
Bryant: Got to stay humble, realize that what you did last year means nothing

[Edited on April 18, 2010 at 3:35 PM. Reason : ^ The second one was pretty much a direct quote from Durant I just heard on TV]

Athletes don't give a fuck because they make more in a month than English majors do their whole lifetime

of course most of the top athletes don't know what humble means.

when you make a MILLION/MONTH (or more), you can not give a fuck about anything in the world.

I think the way a lot of these examples are indeed humbling, is that instead of the selfish athlete focusing on himself and how great he is, he realizes that its much bigger than just him...you'd have to think however selfish the athletes normally seem, they DO idolize some of the hall of famers and people who hold all time records, and being compared to them can indeed be humbling for them
