there are the rose gardens behind hillsboroughand then the plant place over by where blue ridge hits hillsboroughand several places on the greenway- just look at a map of raleigh (mapquest or google) and look for green blocked off places- chances are its either a park or a golf course

Google Maps. Raleigh. Look for the green blotches.[Edited on April 20, 2010 at 2:33 PM. Reason : meant this as, I've find new parks where I live this way, rather than the "google it" response]
4/20/2010 2:23:11 PM
^ isn't that technically googling it though, i mean you are using google maps
4/20/2010 2:48:09 PM
just go to umstead
4/20/2010 3:11:18 PM
go to oakwood cemetery. It was designed in 1869 as a public park with grave stones that are supposed to be 'sculptures in a garden.' It was first a cemetery for confederate soldiers. about 1200 are buried there. very beautiful. 7 mins from campus on the northeast shoulder of downtown.
4/20/2010 3:17:33 PM
How did nobody mention Dorothea Dix? The park is huge.
4/20/2010 3:17:48 PM
I had a picnic last week at the rose gardens. take hillsboro, turn on pogue and go past the raleigh little theater. like 60 seconds from campus.
4/20/2010 3:34:35 PM
^^yea i came to post that. huge place, not quite a park *yet* but its close to downtown and away from all the "hustle and bustle"[Edited on April 20, 2010 at 3:36 PM. Reason : .]

Umstead Park and the Falls Lake Trails take a little time to get to, but they're well worth it as long as you have transportation and a few hours to spare.

You can walk around the Arboretum and definitely feel secluded. You don't feel like you're near the Beltline or the railroad tracks, IMO.
