you can run it "flying" which means it bed's only on the wall and not on the ceiling. or you can run 1x flat out from the vault and then a 1x down from the that. then you can bed the crown on the wall and the 1x coming from the flat 1x. basically you are creating a soffit. most times it is left out when a ceiling is vaulted. i sold nothing but interior trim for a millwork company my first 4 years out of school and never saw a way other then flying that i thought looked good.
