is it a Canadian thing to put on hazards when it's raining or something? Seems like anytime it rains I see only Canadians with hazard lights flashing.

Who puts hazard lights on when it rains? Unless your ass is skidding out of control, or you're a woman/asian driver, you're not a hazard to anyone!
4/25/2010 3:09:52 AM
Nobody in NC can drive anyway why nitpick
4/25/2010 3:12:48 AM
if you can't see more than 5 ft in front of your car, you probably ought to have pulled over, anyway.
4/25/2010 7:51:59 AM
I only do that when it's crazy raining hard but yeah, best idea is to do ^.
4/25/2010 8:13:09 AM
i've done it when it was raining so bad everyone was only doing 40 on the interstate, i wanted to make sure i was as visible as possible since i was going so slow. i'll also flip them on if i get stuck behind someone traveling considerably below the speed of the flow of traffic
4/25/2010 10:44:52 AM
^same.I also turn on my lights when its raining. This is something NC should start doing.
4/25/2010 10:49:16 AM
i thought it was a state law? i always have mine on when it's raining.
4/25/2010 10:51:53 AM
turning your lights on when it rains is the law here, son

My humor is too dry I see . I was implying that not enough people in NC turn on their lights when they should.

I do enjoy my running lights.I know that I would probably be one of those people that would forget to turn on my lights. Only because I would always think to turn on my lights when my wipers are on, but with rain-x on my windshield I don't use them that often so I wouldn't even think about it.
4/25/2010 5:31:35 PM
Frankly, I'm not sure if day-time running lights are a solution. Only your front lights turn on, not your rear lights. I'm way more concerned about running to the back of a car in my lane, than running into the front of a car in the oncoming lane. I think some people are less likely to turn on their lights BECAUSE they know they have day-time running lights.
4/26/2010 12:07:31 PM
Well, isn't the law if you're running your windshield wipers you have to turn on your lights? So if I don't have my wipers on I don't have to have my lights on.[Edited on April 26, 2010 at 12:44 PM. Reason : ]

^ Yes, it is a law.^^ I think that for day running lights, they should have the rear lights on as well.
4/26/2010 12:43:37 PM
^ only Volvos do that as far as I know

Well when I had my caddy the lights were automatically turn on when I turned on the wipers. When I went to the buick I had to get back into the habit of turning my lights on when it started to rain.My car now has running lights and automatic lights when it gets dark. If I ever drive someone else's car I have to be reminded to turn on the lights.
4/26/2010 12:47:14 PM
for most models, the tail lights do not turn on unless you turn on your lights
4/26/2010 12:47:38 PM
I was unaware of that. But to tell the truth, I have no idea how to turn my lights on. Like the only switch I have to turn lights on and off are fog lights and parking lights.

Well I know what the thread is about, I made the thread!I know it's not the law to put hazards on when you are driving. I just wanted to know if any particular place it is the law, especially in Canada because I've noticed a lot of Canadians around here with hazards on when it rains.

Yeah, I mean I'm kinda overwhelmed when I leave the kitchen and I have to drive somewhere, so I try not to get too complicated when I drive.
4/26/2010 1:21:52 PM
actually the headlight law is they must be on if you intend on using your wipers.

4/26/2010 1:25:51 PM
if there's low visibility in heavy rain/snow I put on my emergency flashers, any good driver should.

I love how automakers have equipped cars with lights that are always on, as well as spent a lot of money on R&D for automatic headlights...all b/c people are too stupid and/or lazy to recognize when a situation calls for headlight/taillight usage. Things like this make me weep for humanity.Personally I can't stand DRLs, especially the ones that are just the highbeams (some Toyotas, Saturns come to mind). Luckily it is something that is easy to disable on any automobile. As far as hazard lights, I use mine in the following situations:-if I'm pulled over on the side of the road (specifically, shoulder on a highway)-if caught in a sudden downpour of rain and I am driving well below the speed limit-if coming around a bend or over a ridge on a highway and see that I have to stop or slow down suddenly (using the hazards in this situation alerts people behind you to a potentially dangerous situation that they themselves cannot yet see). Since my car can stop better than 95% of the vehicles on the road I'm especially mindful of this last one
4/26/2010 2:50:52 PM
I'll do it if I'm more than 15 mph under the speed limit.

in my hood, when it rains, it pours.
