really? damn, thats mostly where i have to do them. the only time i didnt was one summer when it was 106 degrees out and i got sent to this old subdivision that never got developed and i had to do 3 per lot. i was really thinking of quitting that day

Maybe one time. It was coastal plains deposits and we didn't have a geotech report to go by. Most of the stuff we do is Raleigh belt, Durham Triassic, and Carolina Slate belt. Typically the footing subgrade elevation is on or into residual soil.The most I've ever a approved a footing for is 8,000 psf in Durham on the weathered rock and 22.5 tsf for a cassion deeper into the same stuff.
