An athlete making $25 million per season or an actor/actress that makes $20-$25 million per picture. I generally lean towards the athlete due to the training and length of a season in comparison to filming a movie that usually takes about 3-4 months. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think either of them deserve to be paid nearly as much as they make but I somewhat feel its justified due to how much a team/company can make off of one individual. What do you think TWW ?
4/27/2010 7:13:44 PM
actor/actress
4/27/2010 7:14:12 PM
Move this shit to the Soap Box.
4/27/2010 7:14:38 PM
nothing justifies burning a cat. not even doom music.
4/27/2010 7:15:33 PM
Definitely actor/actress son.An athlete is fucking worthless and usually has shit for brains son.At least a god damned actor/actress has the potential to contribute to art son. Fuck man, what the fuck kind of art is playing with a god damned ball? Sports fucking SUCK bitch. ]
4/27/2010 7:15:44 PM
DOOM music justifies everything
4/27/2010 7:16:02 PM
DOOM music? Like the music in the PC game Doom?
4/27/2010 7:16:38 PM
both are the samewith each, they have enough people willing to spend enough money to justify it
4/27/2010 7:16:44 PM
yes BlackDogpure mothafuckin magic DOOM MUSIC
4/27/2010 7:17:30 PM
do actors and actresses even make $25mil per film?i thought it was more like $15 for the really high paid ones.
4/27/2010 7:18:06 PM
k just makin surez
4/27/2010 7:18:14 PM
people like Jim Carrey and Julia Roberts have been making (at least) $25 million a flickRyan Howard, a 1st Baseman for the Phillies recently signed a deal giving him $25 million a yearthe numbers are a pretty good comparison for the sake of the thread
4/27/2010 7:18:59 PM
^yeah that is what prompted this thread, the Ryan Howard signing.
4/27/2010 7:21:51 PM
Why do people sometimes put a space between the end of a word and the question mark? Is that a foreign thing?
4/27/2010 7:22:08 PM
that's an NC86 thing bro
4/27/2010 7:23:07 PM
<align="justify">now that's justified</align>
4/27/2010 7:23:34 PM
He's foreign
4/27/2010 7:23:36 PM
Why do people sometimes single space after a sentence? Or does TWW just auto-truncate it down to one space? Hmm.[Edited on April 27, 2010 at 7:23 PM. Reason : yes TWW auto truncates, nm]
4/27/2010 7:23:44 PM
u gotta put in the ampersand-nbsp-colons if u want moar than one space
4/27/2010 7:24:40 PM
Or I could do this. But yeah.
4/27/2010 7:25:18 PM
4/27/2010 7:53:14 PM
I think supply and demand is the most justified.
4/27/2010 8:05:14 PM
NEDM ITT
4/27/2010 8:07:42 PM
Isn't 20 million the generally accepted amount for the biggest names?I heard somewhere that Depp is going to be making like $40 million for Pirates 4 though.
4/27/2010 8:08:23 PM
This question is too arbitrary and nebulous. What answer did you want Mordecai?
4/27/2010 8:16:49 PM
That's like 100 times what I make in a school year.
4/27/2010 8:18:42 PM
You should go into acting or sports. Also, what do you teach that pay $250,000?]
4/27/2010 8:22:10 PM
I mean a thousand. I DON'T TEACH MATH.
4/27/2010 8:23:14 PM
^^hopefully not math lol[Edited on April 27, 2010 at 8:23 PM. Reason : ^yeah haha you set yourself up for that one]
4/27/2010 8:23:46 PM
4/27/2010 8:24:46 PM
WHATEVER, you're not giving credit to my point, which is THOSE ATHLETES AND MOVIE STARS ARE THE PEOPLE WHO SLACK OFF IN MY CLASS AND DO NOTHING AND DROP OUT OF SCHOOL SO THEY CAN GO ON FOR YEARS ABOUT TEACHERS WHO NEVER UNDERSTOOD THEIR CREATIVITY OR THEIR PROWESS ON THE FIELD/COURT WHEN REALLY THEY WERE LAZY AND ANNOYING MOST OF THE TIME ANYWAY....and everyone will sympathize, even though they make my job hell. It's probably a good thing that I'm getting away from teaching for a while.[Edited on April 27, 2010 at 8:26 PM. Reason : high school English]
4/27/2010 8:26:36 PM
they might make your job helland no disrespect to your professionbut when you have tens of thousands of people paying to watch you teach, then you can complain about their salary
4/27/2010 8:28:15 PM
I'll tutor you in math for $2.5*106 per session.]
4/27/2010 8:31:24 PM
^^I don't see how that's a valid comparison, or why it prevents me from complaining about their salary. Certain stars get paid vast amounts of money for terrible performances. Most people get fired for them.^That is too much money. I think.[Edited on April 27, 2010 at 8:32 PM. Reason : ]
4/27/2010 8:31:34 PM
4/27/2010 8:32:31 PM
^^Feel free to complain about it, because in theory you're doing something much more important than they areBut its a valid comparison because all the people who pay to watch a sporting event or movie are WHY they get paid so much...because people are willing to pay to be entertained by their movie/sporting event]
4/27/2010 8:33:06 PM
A lot of professional league athletes are only pulling six figures and a lot of actors aren't paid at all. Don't feel too bad.
4/27/2010 8:34:16 PM
^^^That's true. I recently watched the movie "Notorious" in which student Biggie Smalls harasses his teacher and tells him that garbage collectors make more than he does (true). It's just frustrating to me to have kids in my class who are convinced they're going to be famous and completely unwilling to work for it, and that actually works for some people. Also, I'm tired.^^Point taken. I guess if people were willing to pay more for education, teachers would have higher salaries. It's always been something people have used as an example of skewed priorities, but it's all supply and demand, I guess.[Edited on April 27, 2010 at 8:35 PM. Reason : ]
4/27/2010 8:35:37 PM
^^^this is exactly how i feel about the subject
4/27/2010 8:37:15 PM
keep working at it though if its something you love and are willing to deal with, pay-wisebesides, tenured college professors can make a nice chunk of change with good job security
4/27/2010 8:37:26 PM
Although, back to the subject at hand: I don't think either salary is justified at that level, not with the standard of living that most celebrities enjoy compared to the average person's. But I might say that the salary:time ratio makes the original argument for athletes' pay somewhat more justified.
4/27/2010 8:42:10 PM
The premise of the question is incorrect. They are both justified because the athlete and actor get paid well to do something they're good at. The people who pay them are the people who collect ticket sales from us.
4/27/2010 9:31:01 PM
short answer: athlete
4/27/2010 9:35:35 PM
^^ i definitely could have worded this question better but they are both justified yes.....but i was asking which is more justified
4/27/2010 9:37:40 PM
athletes for sure, they are much more likely to get hurt badly, and their careers are usually a lot shorter (ok most actors have just a few movies then they fade into obscurity, but not the ones demanding 25mil)
4/27/2010 9:39:15 PM
It seems like being a pro athlete is something you have to be born into, at the very least having a genetic propensity towards height.Anybody can become an actor. It's just a popularity contest.
4/27/2010 9:42:53 PM
4/27/2010 9:49:01 PM
4/27/2010 9:51:51 PM
