I had heard it before, and knew that it's some terrible Postal Service ripoff shit with bad autotune, but tonight I actually listened to it.Perhaps the cheesiest lyrics I've ever heard, and I've heard "I Just Called to Say 'I Love You'."
5/4/2010 4:21:18 AM
pls to youtube link since i have no idea what you're talking about
5/4/2010 4:22:47 AM
5/4/2010 4:25:36 AM
this really might be the worst song ever
5/4/2010 4:27:50 AM
ty, it does suck
5/4/2010 4:30:21 AM
Oh THIS song. I heard this in the conbini the other day and just assumed Deathcab for Cutie had taken the next step in pussification
5/4/2010 4:32:10 AM
I was pretty pissed when I heard it. I was like "is that a new Postal Service song or something" and someone was like "NO, IT'S OWL CITY, OMG DUDE."It's like they took the few good things about Postal Service and then piled in a bunch of crowd-pleaser lyrics and a softly playing orchestra to make it sound less trashy in face of the autotune.Yea, it's pretty fucking awful and it's so popular it hurts.
5/4/2010 4:32:36 AM
this, however, is a fantastic mashup.
5/4/2010 4:35:51 AM
hahaha that's awesome
5/4/2010 4:38:39 AM
it's not as good as the original joc song
5/4/2010 4:40:37 AM
holy shit, thats straight up theft, they sound exactly like postal service
5/4/2010 5:47:56 AM
yea pretty much. song is wayyyyy overproduced and the lyrics
5/4/2010 6:49:44 AM
I've never understood the appeal, even to idiots.
5/4/2010 6:56:05 AM
The appeal of auto-tune?
5/4/2010 7:04:37 AM
i rather like the music itself...but then, i can appreciate most MUSICthe lyrics are retardedly sappy...but then, that's what appeals to their audience and that's why they now have more money than any of us*shrug*

5/4/2010 8:05:53 AM
i appreciated the music, toowhen it was called "such great heights" and was being played by ben gibbard (who also sucks)
5/4/2010 8:06:28 AM
i love getting hugs from 10,000 lightning bugs
5/4/2010 8:12:32 AM
not a huge fan of b\gibbard, but such great heights was awesomeand thisthis is just an amazing rip off, i cant believe this dude just yoinked their sound like that
5/4/2010 8:12:48 AM
honestly, i wouldn't mind if the dude just admitted itbut he's come up with this bullshit of, "well, the postal service only made one record, so maybe my record is the evolution of the postal service"ignoring the fact that you can't be involved in the musical evolution of a band you're not in, that's the most pretentious way of dodging the ripoff label i can think ofwhen kurt cobain was accused of sounding like the pixies, he flat out said he was trying to rip them offthat doesn't make ripoffs any better, i suppose, but kurt cobain also had 10,000 times the songwriting talent of this lightning bug hugger
5/4/2010 8:21:54 AM
5/4/2010 8:23:23 AM
5/4/2010 8:24:20 AM

5/4/2010 8:27:38 AM

did you guys forget my Owl City/Postal Service cover band thread from like a year ago?
5/4/2010 8:29:16 AM
this thread just makes me miss the postal service
5/4/2010 8:29:59 AM
it's worth pointing out that i first heard this song when tschudi was like "who the fuck is owl city and why are people constantly calling schoolkids to get tickets for him"but i didn't listen to it until last week at a deserted BKnothing like shitty food and a lack of people watching to focus your attention on the smarmiest, most disingenuous song everand if it's not disingenuous, the guy is just incredibly lamealso, it occurs to me that the younger generation may never know which of their pop stars can actually sing, because their voices will either be pitch-corrected with technology of ever-increasing subtlety or DRENCHED in autotune beyond all recognition

5/4/2010 8:32:33 AM
i, too, thought of "100,000 Fireflies" (an infinitely superior song) when i heard that stupid fucking linealso, i didn't actually watch the videobut the only other clip i can think of that shows everything in the lyrics is "down under" by men at work
5/4/2010 8:34:13 AM
http://tww.harbl.net/music/Fireflies Goin Down.mp3i felt like the mashup that simonn posted needed to be posted as an mp3, since it's so awesomeso here's the 320kbps version.]
5/4/2010 9:08:16 AM
i made it through 30 seconds before being overcome with the need to poop. That song sucks so hard it makes me want to shit.
5/4/2010 9:11:20 AM
i love a few months back when the whole "men at work" plagiarism thing was making news and they had to pay a bunch of money or something. Anyway, Chris Walla had this to say:"The Men at Work plagiarism verdict is garbage, they got robbed. Related: Owl City should really consider buying Ben [Gibbard] a pony."
5/4/2010 9:16:20 AM
^^ Coincidentally, I had the same thing happen to me.Is this the infamous Brown Note exposed?![Edited on May 4, 2010 at 9:19 AM. Reason : had to shit like a mug]
5/4/2010 9:19:26 AM
When I first heard that song, I immediately checked what to see if Postal Service had released a new single.
5/4/2010 9:20:09 AM
5/4/2010 9:20:11 AM
either way, owl city is selling out moderately sized venues now, with live nation backingi saw postal service once (WITH SOME TWWERS) at go! room 4 back in like, 2001 or 2002, which held like 120 people.granted it's terrible, but it's what little girls want to hear right nowand what little girls want, little girls parents buy'tis no different than it's always been.rip off someone elses sound a few years later, make profit.
5/4/2010 9:23:09 AM
I am cursed with this song. It follows me everywhere. If I go anywhere that plays muzak or has "easy listening" music or whatever playing, this song will come on. Last time I got my haircut it was playing. When I was waiting in the lobby at H&R Block a few months ago. One of my gay friends (He literally likes men, I'm not just calling him gay cause he likes this song) has it as both his ring tone and the ringer on his phone so that when I call him it plays the song instead of making a standard phone ringing sound. They even play it when I'm bowling. I can't escape it.
5/4/2010 10:05:42 AM
