one of my favorite posts on here was from BigHitSunday i think, when there was that thread about that chick that stole her dad's porsche, went nuts with it, hit a guard rail, and there were pictures of her all slumped in the car, top down, after the wreck, totally brained and you could see the inside of the base of her skull. she was all kinds of fucked up...and he wroteyou hangin out the window so they can see you...gold jerry, gold.

^^I know rite?lately I've actually been a lot better about wearing my helmet while skating around, but not while I was riding my bike. I'll prob change that.(not that I havent said that before )^yea BHS brings the laffs oftenFYI the story is also pretty disturbing (his wife kept a journal while he was in a coma) but also equally heart-warming, etc. If you got time to read it, that is.[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 12:54 PM. I feel like if they could do some cosmetic stuff they would. I would not be able to take my eyes off someone if they had that massive dent in their head

sounds like the dude had a hemicraniectomythey take a portion of the skull bone away to give the injured brain room to swell.months later when it is safe to go back to the OR.......and if the bone flap hasn't become infected they will put it back where it used to be.im reading the article now...........so far it sounds like a day at my job[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 3:11 PM. heh, just noticed that the dude's wife was the first one to comment on the story

^ I guess this story was a little eye opening for me because it told how his injury affected his wife and family. What they had to go through was pretty shitty too.

dayum, glad its you and not me.would you say a majority of the cases you see are accidents from skate/bike riding/rollerblading etc?or more car accidents/ people falling off ladders/ etc?[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 3:38 PM. Reason : also why does Nursing week start on a Thursday?]

we see mix of thingsMotor vehicle crashesmotorcycle crashesATV crashes--- ok drunken ATV or dirtbike crashes..........rarely a helmet in usea few bike crashesfew people falling off of horsesat least one cracked out person falling off of a horsetree limbs falling on peoples heads..... that was a doozy!not too many skateboarders or rollerbladers actually the picu might see more of those.....we only take care of adults..........sometimes teenagers over 50kg.a few unfortunate people beaten to death by "loved ones"GSWs both self inflicted or otherwisewe dont really see THAT many traumatic brain injuries each yearmostly its intracranial bleeds, subarachnoid hemorrhages(from aneurysms or arteriovenous malformations) or really huge ischemic strokes that require a hemicraniectomy.[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 3:47 PM. Reason : cuz nurse's day is always may 6th][Edited on May 6, 2010 at 3:58 PM. Reason : almost forgot..we see hundreds of brain tumor patients per year]

They were about to work outside all day so his grandfather fixed them both a big breakfast:coworker: wow grandpa, these eggs are great, but they are a little off-color, did you cook them in the sausage grease or something?grandpa: Na, I cooked em in brainscoworker:
