What's the highest level of education you've received? Do you have plans to pursue further education?

I have a B.A. in English from NCSU. I got into law school a year ago, but deferred enrollment and have since decided not to go.

Eventually, I want to get my MFA in Creative Writing.

"higher" is subjective...in the system used by most of europe, their masters equals our bachelors and their phd equals our masters (at least in terms of the number of years and the amount of coursework required to get each degree)

in many of the what we would consider high schools, they choose whether to focus on arts or science several years before graduation, which gives them their "bachelors"

It wasn't in Europe. It was in Australia. And it really is higher because I asked him what the difference is.

i can't find anything in regards to australia, but the danes consider a doctorate of philosophy to be "higher" than a PhD:

Quote :
"Following reforms in the late 1990s and early 2000s, both countries introduced a new Doctor of Philosophy degree, based upon the American PhD and written as Philosophiae Doctor (PhD). In Norway the PhD replaced all other doctoral degrees except Dr. Philos., while in Denmark, the traditional doctorates are still awarded. In Denmark, the original Dr. Phil. degree is today considered a higher doctorate, as opposed to the PhD, which is considered a "smaller doctorate" at the same level as the former Licentiate. Unlike the PhD, the Dr. Phil. degree is not a supervised degree, does not include any coursework and requires a much larger degree of independent research in both countries."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Philosophy

those across the pond also have a "higher" doctorate:

Quote :
"In the United Kingdom PhD degrees are distinct from other doctorates, most notably the higher doctorates such as D.Litt. (Doctor of Letters) or D.Sc. (Doctor of Science), which are granted on the recommendation of a committee of examiners on the basis of a substantial portfolio of submitted (and usually published) research."

Sorry, had to research a lot and found it... it's a D.Sc. (Doctor of Science) and is offered at some research universities in the US. I realize now why he said it's higher than a PhD in what he did... He got it in herpetology and I don't think you can get a PhD in herpetology in the US. But in other areas, the DSc is equivalent to a PhD so I guess I misunderstood part of what he said - my b
