I'd say so for memorization subjects but certainly not anything that requires math or critical thinking. That takes talent but I guess art is easy for artists too.

Education is broken though, so whats expected/required is definitely easy.

Also its not easy being under appreciated. Doctors certainly have the most important occupation but rarely does a patient get upset with them "you're making me take another drug? gosh i hate you" Its constantly "thank you so much for saving my life".

Then you have the whole salary situation.

^^ i don't know if i'm totally 100% with you on the doctor thing

i mean i am to an extent and i get what you are trying to say but i think you are romanticizing doctors.

[Edited on May 9, 2010 at 6:17 PM. Reason : i think over romanticizing is redundant. lol]

i kinda like teaching. i used to tutor my friends in high school some to be nice. with math and stuff like that it always came to me quicker, and to quote my old math teacher "the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else"

Which subjects are basically memorization? Every subject I can think of is skills-focused or conceptual.

^^ it is. that is why i teach my cats when i'm studying for exams. no joke. i say things out loud and explain them out loud like i'm explaining them to another person. it helps.

^ i mean if you're in high school was history not just like memorization? dates/facts?

^^definitely. Good students can virtually teach themselves but when you have students with disabilities, behavioral problems or who simply don't value education, then teaching is a real challenge.

Also, teachers should do much much more than simply teach a subject. They should teach morals, ethics, confidence and work ethic.

[Edited on May 9, 2010 at 6:59 PM. Reason : teachers that go through the motions are bad]

Nope. They mainly do cause and effect both short and long-term. Their exams are mainly skills-based where they're evaluating/analyzing various historical accounts, the significance of events, etc.

ahhhh. my high school history was pretty much just memorizing. same with a couple of college history courses too. i like the analytical approach a lot better cause then you at least have to think some.

teachers DO "teach" confidence, morals, etc

you don't really teach those things though - you steer people in the right direction. there's no lesson plan on morals and there shouldn't be. but school is a place of learning and you learn things that are "right" and "wrong" and you can learn confidence. i think good teachers help children become more confident. but there isn't really a way to teach that in the traditional sense.

and i don't think that morals like..."wait until marriage to live together" etc etc should be taught. those aren't universal and i think that is dangerous.

i never really listened to the ugly teachers except for one that was terribly ugly but made up for it in personality. it's like that one quote from american psycho:

Craig McDermott: If they have a great personality and they're not great looking... then who fucking cares?
Patrick Bateman: Well, let's just say hypotetically ok? What if they have a great personality?
[pause, all laugh]
Patrick Bateman: I know, I know.
[all in unison]
Patrick Bateman, Craig McDermott, David Van Patten: There are no girls with good personalities.
David Van Patten: A good personality consists of a chick with a little hard body, who will satisfy all sexual demands without being too slutty about things, and who essentially will keep her dumb fucking mouth shut.
Craig McDermott: The only girls with good personalities who are smart or maybe funny or halfway intelligent or talented, though god knows what the fuck that means, are ugly chicks.
David Van Patten: Absolutely.
Craig McDermott: And this is because they have to make up for how fucking unnattractive they are.

i know GGMON is a troll but bank tellers don't exactly belong in the same group as nurses and teachers

nurses and teachers work hard and have difficult jobs for which they are often underpaid.

missing my point. Woman are only good at three types of professions - Nurses, teachers and bank tellers.

Teachers are just overpaid union teamsters who get 180 days off a year.

See what I did there. That statement is also equally applicable.

Morals and ethic aren't exactly universal from family to family and from culture to culture. It's not the school's place to take the place of parents.

^Only because there isn't room in the budget for teachers....we NEED teachers but we can't afford teachers.

They are just making the classroom sizes bigger and making out public school systems worse and worse.

One day people will realize that if we make education for our children a priority then our futures will all be better. We need smart people running our country.

it's amazing how little of my energy is actually devoted to teaching and how much of it is devoted to management, paperwork, and dealing with other issues. i've always wondered what it would be like to be able to just TEACH.
