At what temperature do you set your thermostat?

My AC currently lingers at 81 degrees.

I didn't even run my AC until I woke up at 2 am, sweating, only to find that the temperature inside my house was 87 degrees.

although when i was living in my condo i was comfortable with it around 75 in the summer and 66 in the winter. i was sandwiched in between other units so mine stayed pretty good year round.

i can understand how iheartkisses would keep her thermostat higher since she lives in a warmer/more humid state. when we lived in texas, running the AC was so expensive so we would have to keep our house at 85 in the summer......which when its 120 outside, 85 feels loverly.

ideal and what it actually is are two different things...

Ideally, ~70 year round.
Actually, ~65 winter, ~75 summer.

Depends on whether we're awake or asleep or what time of day it is but I'll simplify it

What we have now is basically 65 minimum in the winter with an 82 maximum downstairs and 84 maximum upstairs in the cooling season. If we have a lot of guests coming over we might bump stuff to 77 summer max and 68 winter minimum.

My AC hasn't turned on yet this season while we have been at home. We stopped having to use heat back around March I think and haven't had to use heat or AC while we are home since. However I think that streak will break soon. I love the utility savings this time of year though It's amazing what fans and natural ventilation can do

I'm set to 77 summer day, 76 summer night; 74 winter day, 73 winter night.

So, I guess ideal is 75.

i like it around 75 most of the time, but i rarely actually have it set there... propane is expensive when i'm running the heat, and i don't have A/C at this house, so setting it is a moot point in summer.

^^^ If it's below 76 degrees, I have to wear a sweatshirt. I get cold easily.

I didn't know you lived in Texas, Cass. I lurv Texas. And yeah, it's hard to transition from 100 degree, humid weather to chilly, sub-70 temps inside. The constant temp change is rough on the body.

The whole natural ventilation scheme doesn't work out that well in the spring time when the air's full of pollen.

T'stat at home is set at 72 right now. Of course that's on the ground floor. 72 downstairs means 75-77 upstairs, depending on each room. I'd prefer 72 upstairs, but the resultant lower temp downstairs (and increased energy bill) discourages that sort of thing. In the winter time the t'stat is set to 65.

And I use my overhead ceiling fan every night.

I really don't know what I prefer- thermostats are so damn finicky and peculiar. I have been places where 72 degrees feel freezing to me, and others where 68-70 has me at a slow sweat during the summer

I keep a small digital thermometer in my room so I always know what the temp in my room is, since it is never less than 3-4 degrees higher than the T'stat readout downstairs. If you care enough go buy one, they cost like $5.

I'm about 71-73 summertime, 68-71 winter time.

I read somewhere 3 degrees was worth like 10% of your bill so I play along

OP, why bother having AC if you're leaving it at 81? I bet you freeze to death in the winter or go broke trying to maintain 81.

When the temp of the house is 90 or higher w/o A/C, 81 degrees is refreshing. I keep the temp at 65 in the winter and just wear multiple sweatshirts and thick socks.

Florida gets hot. 81 is pretty comfy.

I don't really care during the day though.. sometimes we'll shut the AC off and just use fans/windows.

Shit's gotta be cozy and conducive to cuddling at night, son.

cuddling and no AC don't go together

sticking to each other and no AC, now that works.
