I know several well paid engineers who are miserable with their career choice. With that being said, I'd be miserable making $30,000 a year with a college education.

That doesn't surprise me about Shaw but I'm kind of surprised about Meredith. I guess most of those girls are only going to college while husband hunting anyway.

I'm at #1... however, I make well above the mid-career annual salary because I work in the healthcare industry (which is an excellent area for social workers right now). I couldn't imagine working in mental health or CPS or something, where you work way too hard for way too little pay

Whatever you have to tell yourself.

Meanwhile, the people getting paid have the time and wherewithal to do what they wish.

Try reading and doing some math

Quote :
"Some mega-millionaire movie stars with drama degrees (Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep, for instance) may be skewing these numbers upward"

Add to that -- not as many people do drama and no education person makes millions.

not really the best question to be asking. You should be asking how many got hitched and are stay-at-home moms or housewives to demonstrate the point I think you were trying to make. I married my wife 6 months after she graduated from Meredith, but she also has a well-paying job.

Then again she double-majored, graduated with a 4.0, had 4 internships in college, and didn't like the majority of the girls there... so she probably isn't a good example of a typical meredith student

Yup, and she only had one relationship during that time I believe... she also was accepted to Cornell, discovered an asteroid and is now in grad school. I think it's safe to say she didn't go for her MRS (but I will admit she's about the only one I know like that from Meredith)

teachers and cops complain about their pay, but on the average the dumbest americans flock to these professions so i don't have a problem with them being "underpaid"

this girl on my facebook page is graduating from Meredith with a dance degree. I want to tell her she wasted 4 years of her life but that would just be mean.

Yeah from what one of my former coworkers would tell me, there's two types of girls at Meredith. The ones that are in college to get an education and the ones that are in college to get a husband. She would tell me stories of girls sitting in the cafeteria making wedding binders and choosing their wedding date and they didn't even have boyfriends

Honestly, I don't know. Maybe that's why it's down the street from State

^^ My sister is in geological engineering. She'll be making $texas while I work for scraps.

^^^^ yea haha. i heard a lot of those stories and saw it a few times myself when I ate lunch on campus with her. My wife had a small circle of intelligent friends and they pretty much didn't associate with the other girls there heh. But there were a lot of crazy girls there for sure.

So they're more desperate when they do meet a guy. I've walked through a Meredith dorm one time with a friend of mine who went there. Every girl on the hall popped their head out the door to get a look. It's like you're a piece of meat and them girls is hongry. It felt awesome.

I'm surprised that journalism isn't on the list.

Starting salary in that field is super low ... I had job offers for 18k coming out of college. I think the long-term earnings must pull it out of the worst-paying college degrees category.

I would also guess that a lot of journalist majors don't end up working in journalism, especially these days.

Geotechnical or geological?

My uncle works for Devon in Texas. He told me to move their to go to school for petroleum engineering. Starting salary at 80K? Probably would have been worth it.

I dunno. I just know she's already had companies like BP throwing internships her way without her even knocking on their door.

I'm guessing she's glad she didn't take that BP internship this summer

Sounds like geological.

I'm in geotechnical. I started out around 43,000 I'll be at or around 50,000 in a few months though.
