Did I miss a thread on this or was there just not one? (didn't see anything in search; probably because no one else cares hah )

if you don't know his name you might know his work.

A few album covers:

Pretty much the face of cheesy fantasy art for books, comics, and some albums in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Dude even had a stroke and had to switch the hand that he drew with 10 years ago or so in his 70s. Pretty badass.

George RR Martin, author of the Song of Ice and Fire series, had this to say about him yesterday:

"Frank Frazetta has died. One of the giants of SF and fantasy art. In his heyday, it was said that having a Frazetta cover on your paperback would double your sales"

He was no Gustave Doré but he had his niche. RIP.

^^^,^^ I don't know what being on TWW means to that question, but I only said that because Dore's depiction of the Arthurian tales, Don Quixote, Paradise Lost etc. was also hugely important to fantasy-related art. Yes, obviously Dore was 10x the artist that Frazetta was and I expected most people to agree, but I was just stating that even though he might not have been the visionary that Dore was, he was still a respected artist in his niche. I used Dore's name because I couldn't think of another artist most people on here would recognize who had contributed to the genre in the past.

sorry for ruffling people's feathers
