RALEIGH -- Investigators are working to recover a body found Wednesday afternoon in Lake Raleigh, on N.C. State University's Centennial Campus.

N.C. State Police Chief Tom Younce said the body was so badly decomposed that it was unclear whether the victim was male or female, black or white. He could not say how long the body had been in the water. No boats were found in the area.

The 75-acre lake, open to the public, has a fishing pier and launch ramp for non-motorized boats such as kayaks, and canoes, according to the university's website. Fish in the lake include large-mouth bass and catfish. Around the lake are hiking trails.

Younce said a family hiking the trail about 4:15 p.m. spotted the body in shallow water about 100 yards from shore, in a southwest corner of the lake. They called Raleigh police, who called campus officers.

They should have pawned the body off on the WRC so they can keep the campus crime stats in check.

I don't understand how this has any relevance AT ALL. Lake Raleigh is hardly on a main part of campus, and is practically in the back yard of several apartment complexes, etc. There's a much better chance it's some bum or S. Raleigh vagrant than it is a NC State student.

Yeah Lake Raleigh is kind of in the middle of nothing except for those overpriced condos that you are just buying a long lease on.

they aren't too bad now... the prices on them have dropped over 50% from what they were initially asking (still a little more than I want to pay for a townhome, but the one I'm living in now off of wade isn't much less than those and it isn't nearly as nice- just a good location)

"RALEIGH, N.C. — A badly decomposed body found floating in a lake on the North Carolina State University campus on Wednesday has been identified as a missing Raleigh man, university police said Thursday.

Hugh Debrory Allen, 48, was reported missing to Raleigh police last week after authorities said he wandered away from an apartment on Gorman Street, authorities said. A Silver Alert for him was issued on Tuesday.

A couple walking with their children found Allen's body floating in the southwest corner of Lake Raleigh, off Centennial Boulevard, Wednesday afternoon. The 75-acre lake is located on N.C. State's Centennial Campus.

There are no indications of foul play in Allen's death, N.C. State Police Capt. Jack Moorman said.
